The 85.5 were set up with removable strut cartridges and I swapped them out for new ones. Just compress & remove the spring and its simple. I don't remember why but for some reason I was thinking the later models were different. Bruce

Early offset have the replaceable inserts, with screw off caps at the top of the strut body..

Is it possible to have an 86 with the early strut cartridges? I'm curious because I already did this to my car which is considered an 86 with late things...but it has early offset wheels, and apparently early suspension inserts. VIN test also says it's an 86.
Back on topic, It looks like either way, it's not gonna be the easiest job for you. Whether you're working on the 88 951 or 88 Celebration which you state in your sig, you're going to have to use the hacksaw method :\ GL

The koni conversion from paragon is super easy and probably the cheapest option. You just need a large drill bit (9/16" IIRC, though a 1/2" with a little twist works just as well), and a hacksaw (or cutoff wheel/sawzall will make it super fast). You use to have to do a funky measuring from the bottom, now they just have you measure down from the top, make the cut, pull the old strut out, drill hole in bottom, insert new strut, and so on.
