How much fuel needed for track day?
Doing a track day at Laguna Seca. Five 20 minute sessions. How much fuel can I expect to burn?
1989 944S2. Don't want to lug around a full tank if I only need a half tank.

i think expect to get about 2-4 mpg less than www.fueleconomy.gov estimates.
play it safe and expect to get 5-6 less?
edit: Well, I take this back!

I got about 10mpg in my n/a car in a chump car race, 120 gallons, 1200 miles. My turbo car gets about 5 or 6 mpg on the track. I'd guess you'd get 7 mpg.
Figure about 100 minutes track time is 100 miles, around 15 gallons.

I agree, fill it up.
Last year i did a track day at NJMP with my 951, drove down the morning of and made it to the track with about 1/2 tank. Figured i could get by with it. 2nd session down, i had just over 1/4 tank left. Gas at the track was uber expensive, like $2 more a gallon. Checked for close gas stations off my 5 year old GPS with never updated maps. Every brand name gas station i went to in a 5 mile radius was out of business and the other ones only had 91 octane. Wasted 45 minutes driving before i gave up and just paid the $5 a gallon at the track .

Go to the track with a full tank in the AM....depending upon the day...how you drive and how your car is setup you will probably finish the day with a 1/4 tank...enough to get back to a gas station or your hotel.
One thing I'll say...I love the fact that I can beat on my car all day at a track event and not have to worry about bringing extra fuel...while most of the 911 guys need to run out at lunch time to fill up !

Also, its common that a 944 will start to suck air and the engine will miss if running below a 1/4 tank on the track. Clockwise tracks, mostly right turns, the fuel flows away from the pump pickup.
I got 7-8 mpg with my old 944S, and that was the fuel efficient track car. The turbos run around 5mpg, and those are running 100-110 race gas at $6/gal. Tank is topped off and I still need a couple 5 gallon jugs along, just for a one day event.

When I started running my 944 NA track car I never ran over a 1/2 tank, but I always carry gas cans to fill up. My 944 spec in race mode will go about 2 hours full bore racing on 17 gal tank. The S2 has a bigger tank, but more fuel burn per lap.

Figure it costs $5 vs $3... $2 savings.. maybe... not worth it. - BTW. I never buy gas at the track. my 944 spec used regular pump gas and I just bring what I need. I get more off track if needed. The only I got gas at the track was at Miler in Utah. They had regular 91 for sale at a price that was within $0.05 a gallon from what was off track. Since we camped at the track it was no-brainer to get gas there.
That was the exception rather than the rule though.

I've almost run out of gas a few times at the track. Most of our local tracks don't have fuel at them, which led me to have to mooch off friends. This year I plan to get 2 5 gallon jerry cans and mount them to my tire trailer.
That way I can bring the fuel to the track and not have to carry it inside the car.
