I was driving at a Drivers Education event this weekend and the exhaust manifold gasket on #1 dissintegrated. I originally thought i had a cracked header, but it doesn't look like it. Anyone have any tips on getting the manifold off. I am worried about the nuts and or studs. Can I get the manifold off if I leave the studs in the head, or will I have to get the studs out. I assume i will have to disconnect the pipes downstream also.

Studs stay in the head, nuts come off. If you can get the manifold of the studs enough (pull it back so the flange is no longer on the studs) you should be able to slip a gasket onto the studs them slip the manifold back on them. Shouldn't have to loosen up the collectors, mine had ample room to maneauver them. Good luck.

I assume you have a 951. The exhaust is very different (and more difficult to remove) than from the n/a. I recently did this on my 951 and posted a procedure. You can search the archive. I ended up double nutting the studs and removing them after plenty of rust buster. If you take them off completely the 2-3 has to come off before the 1-4. Danno suggested just removing the nuts and backing off the header, then slipping a new gasket in after cutting slots in the bottom of them. Might work but you have to be real careful about not messing up the gasket.
Good luck,
