Post 84 944 n/a torque tube- HELP!!!

I had a problem today that I have never heard before! When just driving down the road, after I had just started from a light, I heard this sound like a driveshaft rattle. It was*LOUD* though. It sounded like the torque tube in the back was about to fall off! It did stop after about 500 yards though. It was so bad I was about to go straight to the shop and borrow a friend's car!

This did happen once before, but it goes away after a 1/2 mile or so! WHAT IS THIS!?!?

well, after finally giving in and taking it to the shop, I got a call saying I needed the rear axles rebuilt. A few days, and hunderds of dollars later it runs great again...

Is it possible to take a Porsche to a shop and spend under $500??? If so, LET ME KNOW HOW!!
