Post Chicagoland-Looking for a replacement!!

Howdy all. Looks like it's been a sad week. I see
some cars burnt up and stuff. I'm sorry for your
loss, I hope it work out for you all.

I've been away from the Rennlist for about a year
or so. I used to have an 81 924 I got for a song,
needed some paint and major interior work.

Unfortunatly I was laid off last year, and
shortly after the engine finally gave up the
ghost. It could have been repaired, but honestly
I didn't even have the money to tow it to a shop.
I literally pushed it over a mile to get it home!
Is that LOVE or what? Anywho, I was forced to get
rid of the car as my apartment complex does not
allow "cars to be stored" in the lot.

Recently my grandmother past away, and she left me
a few thousand dollars, and she literally said
"spend it on something that makes you happy,
like that car you once had". So I'm thinking
about spending it all on a 944 or a 944 Turbo,
budget permitting, rather then paying off credit
card bills and stuff, LOL.

I'm very serious about this, and I'm hoping I
might run into someone here who has a second 944
or is thinking about upgrading, and wants to sell
it to someone who truely has a love for the car,
and will treat it as such. I'd be willing to
travel to neighboring states just to look at a
car, and I hope to purchase withint the next month
or so.

Feel free to contact me about your vehicle, or
any leads you might have on shops, dealerships,
friends that might have something in my area.

I don't have a very high budget, but I'm motivated
to sell of my old SAAB Turbo if I have to!

I apprecaite your time, thanx for reading!

Well, I just recently purchased a car in your area (downers grove actually). To be honest with you, there are many great deals in our area on all types of 944 cars. Take a look in the paper and www.autotrader.com. This gave me about one good car a week to look at. I put down four offers and the fourth one went through. Take your time, make an offer, and be ready to walk away if they are not willing to negotiate. Believe me, there are plenty of cars in and around chicagoland. Get the best mechanically sound example you can afford. I didn't get a certified porsche mechanic to inspect my car since my dad who used to work at a porsche dealership was able to come along. However, I would recommend it if you don't know much about these cars. Be sure to search the archives on this board about first time buyer questions. Also, service records for a prospective car are a major plus.

Thanx for the tips ,F110.

It seems though that all the peeps selling cars
in our area (I grew up in Downers Grove, a few
blocks from town) seem to think that Porsche is
worth more because of the name.

I keep finding perfect examples of how a fine car
should NOT be maintained, basically beaters with
a fine badge on the hood. And these people want
some tall cash for these cars.

I guess I just have to be diligent in my searches.

Check this out, it was posted about a week ago on this message board. I would be interested in this one if I was still in the market for a 944.

What does your budget look like. I have an '86 black on black 944 n/a in Chicago with 58,xxx miles on it that I may be persuaded to part with. I have been thinking of looking for a change anyways. Few mods, the car just went through inspection by my mechanic for autocross purposes and passed without issue.
