Here are some more pics. I also have some great action pics of a narrow escape from a smoldering 911 racecar if you care to see them.

Dan, no clear coat... sanded the old paint off with 220, 400, & steel wool. Wiped down with alcohol, primed two coats of Krylon Gray Primer, did two coats of Aluminum. Did all four wheels in one long afternoon in the parking lot of the complex I was then living at (ie, this was _not_ a professional job!;-)).

Waxed 'em _once_ in the 5 years plus that I had the car after painting, about three months after the paint job.

The color is hard to judge, between faded memory & the _very_ poor condition of the original paint. I'd say it was somewhat lighter, more silvery - metallic than the original crap, but that's a very subjective judgement. This was on a _very_ dark blue car. In parking lot lighting, the wheels almost had a soft glow when freshly washed.

IIRC, I bought a can each of Krylon's Silver, Pewter, and Aluminum, than experimented on some scrap metal to pick which one I liked best.

Jim, off to Home Depot to buy the day's project stuff...

Jim, Thanks for the answers. I think when I do mine I'll add clear coat to the top for additional durability. Maybe a satin clear so it doesn't look too DIY'er?

Don't know why everyone thinks they have to strip to bare metal as long as the paint they're going over is strongly adhering?

Thanks again
