Default Alternator Belt

Hey guys im replacing my power steering and alternator belt, the PO gave me the belts. The brand is Contitech, i took off the old belts..the new belt for the alternator is about 3 inches from fitting on. I loosend all the correct bolts on the alternator and its as loose as i can have it and it still wont come close to fitting on the pulley. Heres a couple pictures of the new vs old alternator belt to show you how much smaller it is.

The top belt is the old one, it can stretch about 3 inches longer than the new one (bottom belt-Contitech).

Should i get a new belt and match the size up to the old one?

When I replaced mine the first one was for the a/c delete and was too short---this may or may not explain your problem. I honestly don't remember HOW much shorter it was now, but I remember looking at it and saying WTF? Got the belt for an a/c vehicle and I was fine. Hope that helps!

OK, my stupid question of the day..

Why would you loosen the Alternator hardware to swap the belt?

The AC compressor strut under the car is where the adjustment happens, not the Alternator...

FWIW the AC delete belt is 720mm the AC belt is 1000mm (according to the PET parts manual), that is a little bit more than 3 inches... actually a little more than 10 inches...

ALSO just noticed the part number you posted is different than the one you linked to.. you linked to a late model 944 with AC, but the PN you posted is an early model AC delete...

Which part number you you actually have?

or

notice the difference in part number?

It's just a belt. Take it to AZ and have it matched up. It'll work fine!!!

Alright guys...my bad lol, i DONT have a/c. im kinda confused on the alternator belt size though, heres what ive tried so far.

Duralast #395k5 ( or 5PK1005)- The girl at autozone said this is for a 84 944 without a/c, i try it and its wayy to long and looks like it has enough room for the a/c compressor.
Contitech #999-192-204-50/21 - Couldnt even come close to putting it around the alternator pulley to the crank pulley.
Napa #25-050336 - This is what i had on the car that fit perfect but its worn out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry for the stupid questions/mix up..im a little tired lol.
