Differences between 86 and later 951's?

I've never had issues with driving the 951 in traffic... except for the fact I think it's bad for the clutch, etc. It's very drive-able, I just don't like to drive it in stop-n-go traffic. These cars are getting rarer and rarer, and I don't like to abuse mine.

Thad, I had wanyed to say that last night but I forgot to. The Turbo would alllow me to distribute miles between potentially three cars. I would really like to restore the 951 the same way I have done the NA, giving it a great deal of work that puts it out of commission for short and long periods of time or out in other mysterious ways.
ElonDooberhead, I have gotta find peoples that take care of their cars like I do, those two that were in poor condition were both at dealerships. I am still looking.....hey keep your eyes peeled for me folks, i'll look at anything that says turbo now!

Oh and I should point out, unless you're very familiar with these cars, have access to facilities, and tools do NOT buy a car that needs a lot of work, and again do not buy a car that hasn't been through a through pre-purchase inspection, whatever the price unless you plan to part. The parts alone for a proper engine rebuild would come to around $2k on a car like the 944 turbo (that's without the turbocharger), and labor if you're paying someone would easily double that. I've worked as a mechanic for some time and have access to parts at cost, and always end up using a friend's shop. So don't buy a ragged out 86 just because it's cheap. I like higher milage cars that don't feel loose.

I hope to be there, I have a friend here in town that is usually on the crew. As usual it all depends on work schedule. I hope that i'll see a lot of Rennlisters there! If you're there Ahmet i'll gladly take a ride and swig some suds with ya!

On the Fuchs wheels notation above, I agree wholeheartedly. The Fuchs really set a 951 off. I wouldnt completely right off the 86 951s either. If you can find one with the Fuchs like I did, you are in very select company because the Fuchs are 16" and on the early offset for that lone year. I dont remember if the 911s that same year used the same 16" Fuchs or not as an option, but as the above poster cited, fitting wheels on the 86 951s leaves you few options unless you want to get real creative, making those 16" Fuchs that year a rare sight. Im getting ready to refinish/repaint mine. Wouldnt give them up for a new set of HREs. Well, at least I would think twice about it.
