Post weight shaving

i have an 86 944.

i wanna get the weight down but again i dont want to sacrafice a lot of the interior (like back seats and carpet) makes the car look unfinished and just bad in my opinion. I had a leak in my rack so i just decided instead of spending all the money i'd just get rid of the power steering, so i took the pump off and the res and all the hoses....useless i know...saves 2 pounds.

so what else can i do other than seats to get rid of weight?

Sounds like you want to retain a street look, but sleeper weight?

There's info in the archives regarding this, and some actual weights that I and others have posted. You've got to make a choice now - how serious are you?

- you can shave a little by doing the cheap stuff... removing parts that are not necessary, but don't take a lot of work or engineering to remove and live without

- you can go crazy and throw money and time at it. A few street modified 951's and 968's that have lost some serious weight (like the Powerhaus Turbo clone in Excellence earlier this year). Start thinking carbon fiber, stipped interior replaced with lightweight carpet and dynamat, CF seats - you're gonna have to lose that back seat, it's heavy and all in the wrong spot... replace it with a well shaped piece of CF or fiberglass covered in fabric (go with all black - easy to hide flaws). Hey, you're in Mass - lose the AC.

If I seem excited about the subject, it's because I hope to build a street killa for DE only - soon as someone loans me a car with a blank check

I've done the "ugly" approach - my car is stripped for racing... still losing weight, one screw at a time... currently at ~2750lbs race weight (1/2 tank, and big fat me) - the latest nugget... I deleted all of the stickers and script, and replaced the front badge with a sticker of the same size. Stop me before I strip again! <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

remove...the spare tire and Jack...change out the seats with some sparco's...that alone will save you a 100 pounds... and you can change out the battery with a light weight unit.

If you have the money change out the hood and rear window...big weight savings...after that you have body panels...

i would defenetly get rid of the AC because it doesn't work anyway, although the 17 heat strokes i suffered last summer weren't the high light of the few months but whatever. I would need an AC delete kit right?what does that include?just a pulley with a tensioner?also what else is part of the AC system other than the compressor that i can yank?

i already took the spare tire/jack out. i am also not willing to spend the money for carbon fiber hood or any panels..something like ac delete kit i would do but not something that expensive.

Put the Kokeln rear suspension setup on and lose 50 lb. Pricey but effective. Get an Odessey battery and lose another 15 lb. Carbon fiber doors are a big savings but I wouldn't do it on a street car. You'd still need to put in some intrusion protection. Look for light weight wheels.
