Post i've gotta say goodbye

I just got back from the dealer. I'm driving home in a Jetta GLS tomorrow. I'm trading in a car, but I'm not positive whether it's going to be the 944 or my truck. They told me $1500 for my car, which, the way it looks now, is probably all I could get for trade in out of it. Trade in on my truck will look more like $2500, but I think I'm going to have a harder time selling a 944 myself than I would the truck. Soooo...

85.5 944, with the odometer dead at 43k. Last reported 100 miles less in 2000 IIRC. Guards red, BBS 16" rims all around, new Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tires, brand new center force clutch. The rubber pads are taken off the front bumper as I was going to repaint it, but that's not gonna happen now. There is orange peel on the rear fenders beyond color sanding. Pretty much everything else is stock. I'm in Montgomery, AL. If I've got a realistic shot at selling this to one of you, I'll take the truck in and let them have it. Unfortunately, it's got a cold start problem right now that I've been unable to figure out. I cleaned the battery terminals up and had it tested, checked the ground and its not those. It could be as simple as old spark plugs, which I was going to replace this weekend but it doesn't look like thats going to happen if I can get rid of it. Carfax comes up clean. I tried to get someone here to run one but didn't have any luck, but in any case, the VIN is WP0AA0942FM455760.

Pictures at http://www.cardomain.com/id/qoncept. If I get a serious response before tomorrow around lunch, I'll take the truck in instead. Otherwise, I really don't want to try to sell a Porsche.

So, how much are you looking to get? 1500?

Realistically.. I think I'd be fair asking $3600. I'm losing a couple grand after what I paid and the clutch job, but live and learn. And save for a Carrera 4S.

Yeah.. Like I said, its got the cold start problem, and the front bumpers taken off make it look kinda ugly to someone wanting to buy it. And I just checked, kbb.com says trade in value should be somewhere around $1700. Damn dealers.

You could put the bumpers back on real easy, assuming you just unscrewed them.

One was rotted and falling apart. Otherwise I would've left em on until repainting.

Get some glue and some thick screws, and just glue it then drive the screws in, that should hold it. One of mine was held on like that and I never knew it, until I took it off. Was it the metal part that connects it that rusted?

I'm sorry to hear that you are going to sell your porsche. I wished that I could have helped you with your clutch, but I guess it just didn't work out. I personally would sell the truck, bcs you have already fixed alot with your car/spent alot of money on it. I sounds like you have fixed alot of the major problems with the 944, a 944 in good shape with alot of the problems fixed are hard to find. but I understand if you want to keep the truck. alot of time a truck is more useful and alot less $$$ for maintance. good luck, and a Jetta GLS isn't a bad choice. what year are you looking at. I would also try selling the 944 in the autotrader, just say what all you have done to the car.

what a choice- most of us would keep the p-car and dump the truck- but were all basically nuts anyway.
Good luck in your decision- You'll be back, and stay on the boards..
Did you try selling the 944 thru rennlist classifieds? Wil probably get a lot closer to your asking price- and then there's alway's (gulp) e-bay..

I dont envy THAT decision. You'll be back..

Don't trade it, if you can. Sell it on the rennlist classifieds, or something. $1500 to a dealer is nothing. I wish I was a little more flush, I'd take it off your hands. Is the $1500 for a trade even make enough of a difference to matter in the deal on the new car? Just asking.

Can't blame you for wanting to hold onto a truck, though. I couldn't get by without mine.

BTW, that is a funky interior you've got it that one. I haven't seen one like that before.

triscadek, and the rest.. I'm taking it in today. I talked to them and they got a whole lot closer to what I was wanting. If it makes you feel any better, trisc, there's no way I would've been able to drive it to you. I thought about just taking it in -- it would've been nice to see one of you with it, but I'm too anxious and if I have to take it to the dealer, I'd like to do it soon. If anyone is still interested, I'll bet it'll probably end up at an auction, probably in Atlanta so you could probably pick it up cheap. I'll ask today what they plan on doing with it and let ya know.

I'm sure I'll still be around, and eventually maybe back with a 968, but thats several years down the road at least. Maybe the Carrera 4S I had my eye on at the same dealer.. Thanks for the ton of help you guys have given me in the last few months, without it, I surely would've lost a lot more money on the car.
