Ok, last question for you guys, I got the guy down to 6 flat out the door. I think I am going to buy it, does this sound like a good deal? I am putting some money down on it next week for the car. Let me know. Thanks so much.

$6000 from $7700?

Sounds like a great deal, but I'd definitely be wondering why he is so willing to drop the price so much! Before committing to anything, GET THAT PPI!!!

It's a rubber belt. The parts will cost about $400 if you do it yourself, about $1000 if you have it done. All these numbers, of course, can be different in your area. If it breaks -and it will if you don't change it- you bend valves and things get hugely expensive very quickly.

Yes, it takes a special tool, though some guys tension the belt by "feel" -I wouldn't.

Frequently, the changing of front seals is done at the same time since you're there and they frequently leak. Also, changing the waterpump is also recommended at the same time, again due to the fact that you are already there and have to take it off to get at the belts and if it seizes later...same results as if the timning belt broke. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. If you arean't prepared to spend some money on this car right after purchase, then maybe it's too expensive a car for you to maintain. They're AWESOME cars, but not cheap to own. Get one set up right and it will give years of dependable service and perhaps the best performance for the money of any used car available. But defer or abuse service and YOU WILL PAY. Anybody disagree?

Agreed with the 2 previous posts. Get the PPI, and expect that many of the service/repair aspects of the vehicle will need to be done by Porsche specialists, who have the requisite tools, manuals, experience and knowledge. Most Porsche design is excellent, but not tolerant of small mistakes (incorrect bolt torques, play in belts, etc). Further, in order to get those engines into small spaces, space to work is very limited. Things need to be removed and replaced in proper sequences, with specialized tools. Understand this up front, bite the bullet, and make sure your new and wonderful ride is maintained to the level necessary - professional.

I am not a professional Porsche mechanic, so I am not saying any of this to support my business. I have worked on cars and fire engines for about 25 years, both professionally and for pleasure/personal reasons. I consider myself fairly mechanically inclined (meaning I have less than 10% "extra" parts left after completing a job). <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> However I have chosen to place my new (to me) 85.5 NA 944 into the hands of the experts, and I am glad that I have.

Yeah, it sounds too easy to be true.

If they're that eager to sell the car, I'd be worried they suspect there's something wrong. However, now you're close to the point where you can put the money into the belts and still be ok with how much $ you have into the car. Just hope that's all there is to be done.

With those miles, I'd suggest looking at the cv joints. (They're on my mind because I'm doing mine tonight) With those miles, they should be replaced if they're original. My car is at 133K, and had the originals.

Buyer beware. I traveled to look at a car that was represented as "mechanically excellent". It was a complete POS. I hope that's not the case here.

Well, I just a loan for the car, then I get back to e-mail the guy that I am coming down tomorrow to pick up the car and he says he sold it!!! Even though I told him not to and I would be sending money today for it. I e-mailed him around 5pm to tell him and got an e-mail back in about 1 1/2 telling me that. So I e-mailed him back telling him I would down tomorrow to come get the car and I would be paying cash for it like we planned. Also that we had a deal and I would be donw on tuesday or so. I didn't have a deposit on the car, didn't know if the loan would go though or how long but what the hell??!!! What should I do? I really like the car and want to get it after all of this? I tired to call, but it is like a dealer, I also e-mailed him too. I am PISSED to say the least, is there anything I can do? Is anyone thinking of selling a 951 now?? I am in the market, I guess.?

Sounds like a typical used-car deal. The first guy through the door with cash gets the car. It happens.
