OT: Made a mistake and went to see a WRX STI

If I were in your shoes and could afford to get a STi at the price of your 2.5RS and/or 944...I'd be driving an STi right now.
"...but, it's a Porsche."
It's a mighty old Porsche, doesn't have a warranty, parts are a ton of $, doesn't have the aftermarket support as the WRX/WRX STi, nor the power potential of STi.
One guy has already dynoed OVER 300 horsepower on an ALL WHEEL dyno with just a downpipe, intake and slightly higher boost.

Mind you, the car dynos about 255 horsepower stock on an all wheel dyno...

I drove a WRX and I wasn't too thrilled with it. UDPride has one, and he seems to like it a lot. It's pretty hard to argue with 300hp...I dunno, I'd buy other cars for the money....Like an Audi Quattro Coupe and 15 grand left over...Or just an A4...maybe soup up the 1.8T, if you're into engine mods...

Namely a great performance car for not a lot of dough that will be very surefooted in the rain and snow during Ohio's bad weather. Comfortable enough to get me to work in bad bumper traffic. It does these things as I knew it would. Im not totally gaa-gaa over the look of the car either but I couldnt have it all for $23.5K. I dressed it up w/some much better rims which helps over the POS stock ones. Overall reliability has been perfect for the first 12,000 miles. No complaints.
Its not a Porsche though and doestn fulfill the same thrill. As a daily driver though while the Porsche stays parked for nice sunny days, the car is a pretty good fit for me. Havent driven an STi, but Im sure its twice the car. For 31K its not a bad deal. I might consider an STi when my WRX lease is up. I need a car that can take on potholes and road salt and flying debris so the P-Car doesnt have to. I park the WRX outside. The P-Car gets garaged. I think that tells you how I rank both vehicles. If anything I really like the AWD. Im not sure Id want another daily driver without it. Its quite incredible in the slippery stuff. I guess that whittles my list down to Qauttros, Subarus, 4-Motions and such.
Or of course, a Carrera 4.

Hi,
I nearly bought a WRX but the insurance - even at my age ( 64 ) - was prohibitive @ 10% of the purchase price. They were every "joy riders'" choice and the results live with the Insurers.
I have an '02 2.5 Subaru Outback - manual. It is my "work" driver and a truely effortless milemaker ( kms here ). Many of my round trips are around 3000kms. Sometimes 750 miles in a day. It is a boringly wonderful car for that purpose. Quiet, good on fuel, tyres etc and has excellent "fittings" climate control, CD set etc. I will buy another when I wear this one out - as UDPride says "...I like the AWD..." too. A colleage has one with 300000
trouble free kms on it
I DRIVE my 928S4 and BMW Z3 2.8 for sheer enjoyment!
Thats the difference I think
Regards

The STi is a nice car. If I had the money I'd have one for rally racing.
And it is mildly Porsche inspired, the engineers who developed the subaru engines went to Zuffenhausen to learn the art of engine design. That's why Subarus have flat-4s.

I hate to say it but if I hadn't just bought my 89 951 less than a year ago, and pumped even more money into it (probably $20k into the car total) I'd have already bought an STi...sorry to say it, fit/finish aside, and putting the Porsche name out the window, it's hard to argue with a car that almost outperforms most exotics with a $30k price tag...I can't wait to see what the aftermarket does to teh 2.5L factory turbo...big front intercooler (top mount blows) and a boost controller and I expect to see near 325 at all wheels...now THAT is an impressive figure no matter what the name...I truly believe that if I still lived in a state where it snowed, I'd already own a Scooby...I guess it's good and bad that I live in FLA since there is a part of me that really wishes I had an excuse to get one.
