Any reason for steering wheels to have the flat bottom other than leg room? I don't much care for the rectangle wheel that's in the car now and I don't care for the airbag either so that's not a factor.

I am 6' 8" and while I can drive the car fine, getting in and out can be tricky when it's icy out and I have to do some fancy leg work.

Second, any suggestions on steering wheels? I like the thinner spokes in wheels, but I have no idea where to start looking.

The flat bottom is done purely for ease of ingress and egress.

im only 5'8 haha and i modded my car to run the late car air bag wheel. i love it. a lot smaller than the old and ugly 3 spoke wheel, and better than the oblong 4 spoke wheel.

look at getting into a momo on ebay. i find some for $80 with a hub and sometimes their and craigslist for $50 without a hub. which are usually 50 bucks. IIRC. they have really nice 3 spoke wheels that look like their are for a race car, and others that look like a stock wheel. like the newer EVO.

6'1" 200lbs+, have one (MOMO), love it, not only easier to get in and out of the car but I like having a mild kink for a grab/friction point around the outside of the wheel for low speed, parking lot type manuvering, (I think it looks cool too).

6'5" here no flat bottom wheel for me, stock wheel in mine I've been steering with my legs for years . Personal choice. the best is what you like.

6'2 here, also have a Momo wheel. Bought it used off of a local PCA member who was parting out his car. $100 and it included the hub adapter. Love it. WAY better than the stock rectangle-horn-button wheel.

I'm 6'2" as well, but I don't have any problem getting in and out of the car (then again I'm only 20). I personally really like the old rectangle Porsche steering wheel and I'm not much of a fan of the Momo steering wheels, but it seems like I'm the only one who holds that opinion. But, in the Momo's defense, I suppose you could turn faster and quicker with the flat bottom. Then again the only time I see that coming in handy is tracking, which I have never done, so pretty much a total guess. Maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about. The flat bottom would definitely allow you to steer with your knee easier, hmmm.

It's not the "look" of the stock wheel that I have an issue with. The biggest thing I don't like is the really thin rim - it's hard to get a good grip on it on warm days with sweaty hands. The other thing I don't like is that it seems to be a pretty large diameter.

The Momo has a very thick rim which is much easier to grab on to. The smaller diameter also makes the steering a little quicker (less moving of my hands to turn the wheel.) Both are very helpful in autocross (which I do a lot of.)

Well I can definitely agree with that. With a black interior and living in VA, it often gets hot in the summer, and holy crap, do I burn up. Yeah the rim is thin and sometimes hard to keep a grip on it.

Yeah, I thought along the same lines. Makes sense.

Main reason is so you can pretend you're driving a F1 car. Same goes for turbos in the 80's ...
