Post Brake bleeding turned into a fiasco!

Well, the brakes went fine but after i bled the clutch slave cylinder it wants to stay to the floor. If I pull on it, it springs back up. I attemped to bleed it again for quite some time and get no fluid. My vacuum pump is working fine and the resioir is at the max level. What GIVES ?

Christian,

I had a very difficult time bleeding the clutch with a vacuum pump. After about 2 hours of trying and no pedal I decided to go with a pressure bleeder like the Motive device. I think any pressure system will work. The vacuum pump just does not seem work well on the clutch. Once I used the Motive device it was a piece of cake.

How are these used? I have never heard of them.

Christian,

The Motive bleeder is nothing more than a cotainer which holds brake fluid and can be pressurized with a built in hand pump. You screw it into the threads for the reservoir cap and pump the device up to a positive pressure. You then open the bleed screw and the bleeder pushes fresh fluid through the system. It works great and is a one man operation. Do a search here on Rennlist as I think some other threads give some info on where to buy it. I cannot recall where I bought mine.

FWIW, I had a vacuum device that I could not make work. The Motive was the solution. Basically its just a small version of a yard sprayer that you might use to spray dandelions. Just make sure you get the Porsche attachment and your day will improve considerably.

Or if you are cheap like me .

<a href="http://www.bmw-m.net/TechProc/bleeder.htm" target="_blank">bleeder</a>
Since this is a Beemer site the cap size might not fit, but that should not be a problem.

Take a bottle of brake fluid and find a cap that screws on it that has a nozzle to it like a gear lube bottle and then put a short piece of vacuum hose on it and crack open the slave bleeder screw then slide the hose over bleeder screw and squeaze the brake fluid up into the slave and master, that way it pushes all the air out of the master.
Also work the cluthch pedal 1/3 to 1/2 the way up and down as you do this to help the air out.Or spend 250 bucks for the bleeding gun that does the same thing like I have.

Yea, and you could use the exhaust port on the vacuum pump to pressurize the system with that homemade cap.

Hmm, if you modified a cooling reservoir cap in the same way, I wonder if you could vent the cooling system with this too.

The HELP cap on the BMW website fits the 944 perfectly with a rubber fender washer gasket installed. I made one using the Craftsman garden sprayer. In all honesty, next time I'd probably just search for a good deal on the Motive....but I had fun making it. I think I only saved about $10.

The Motive is only $45. Clutch bleeding took all of 10 minutes. Best money I ever spent.

I just built the aformentioned bleeder with a cheap lawn sprayer 1/4 inch OD a couple of fittings and a BMW (not HELP) cap. Only snag I ran into was connecting the brass nipple thingy to the BMW cap. But with a little tweeking and the proper tap it worked out well. Came out to a total of 17.00 US. Bleeding only took 5 or so minutes.
