The couple times i started up my 84 to warm up, i heard this loud tapping sound in the back of the engine. When i put ANY kind of pressure on the clutch pedal..it stops and all you can hear is the engine purr. When i let go of the clutch, you can hear this loud tapping again. I called a shop in bellevue about it and they said it could be my center springs wearing out? im just kinda confused because when driving.. the clutch doesnt slip at all and at traffic lights at idle i dont hear it. Any thoughts?

My car makes a rattle noise (especially when warm) and pushing the clutch pedal quiets the noises completely... It sounds like it is coming from the clutch; but it is actually the overdrive gear rattling around in the transmission. The noise gets transmitted through the Torque Tube so it sounds like the clutch or the rear of the engine...
This issue is extremely common. Whether or not your is the same issue or noise, i am not sure...
I would say when you hear the noise; get under the rear of the car, and listen to your gear box to see if there is a similiar noise coimng from it.

If it's an 84' and it's an original clutch it can't be center springs as it's rubber centered disc, so there is none. If it's noise coming from the rear, agreed with the above could be your gear box.

Possible.
Usually throwout bearing noise starts or goes away with clutch pushed in/let off. However, since load on the transmission can cause noise if there is issues, pushing in the clutch would release that load and could potentially be similar. Easiest way is to determine if it's the front or the rear first.
