Factory Alarm
#16
The key to my alarm was lost by the PO. I spoke to the local dealer who said that you cannot get another key cut. Instead, you have to buy a new lock and key at a cost of $80. I then spoke to a couple of locksmiths, who said the same thing as the dealer. However, one locksmith said he would try to cut a key for $50, successful or not. I have ordered a new lock and key.

The lock position for the keys on my 84 944NA and my 86 951 are in opposite directions. I've inadvertently set it off numerous times because I just could not remember their positions.
The funny thing is that each time I pop the key in the alarm to open the door....wifey steps back a few feet just in case the alarm accidentally goes off.....yup, she's tried to dis-own me a few times when this happened in a busy parking lot

I have had problems with mine, including not disarming and waking the neighbors in the morning and disabling the ignition making me wait a while before the car starts. You may have seen quite a few threads on here where someone's car suddenly won't start and very frequently they are told, "check for the factory alarm". I have currently disabled it but will probably get another module like Luis in the future because I think it is a desirable feature to have.

The only problem I have is forgetting to disarm it. I use it so rarely that when I do, I always forget. Quite embarrassing to have to jump out of the car, fumble for the right key, and disarm.
