So lots of these new Volkswagons use a wideband O2 (the 17014) same as the sensor thats used in the LC-1 from Innovate. The are controlled by this little chip built by Bosch - a 'CJ110' or later version. Bosch also has an 'AWS' series of chips to control it. Where is this controller on these volkwagons? Do you think it's inside the actual main computer brain integrated into the circuitry? Or is it an external chip bolted to the car inline with the O2 sensor wiring somewhere?
I'm curious because I've got a microprocessor programmed to log and record 0-5V signals and output through RS232 as well as live to a little LCD, and it would be easy to re-code my chip with the voltage algorithm for "lambda" instead. If I could just find the controller out of the Volkswagon that'd be "good enough" for me!
Any ideas? This is a fun DIY - and the way I figure it if I'm lucky I can sucker a parts yard out of a VW part for say 50 bucks - spend another 50 on the sensor and I've already got the logging part done so $100bucks for a wideband setup. Thats my idea at least...

Im pretty sure it would be integrated into the ECU. If you want to go this route, you may want to investigate what megasquirt uses for their on-board wideband driver...
