Cool S2 On Track - Summit Point

Just figured I'd post a link to the page I just put up with pictures of my S2 and I at Summit Point this month.

<a href="http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/4475/Porsche/summitpoint2002.html" target="_blank">On Track S2 - Summit Point</a>

Here is one shot:

This was my first time on the track with this car... and it was a blast. (Previously, I've taken my Audi and my VW Syncro out on the track... hardly do they compare to the S2 for track duty!!)

I topped out at about 120 on the straight... I didn't push it much faster than that.

The Turbo S gearbox swap seemed to work rather well... I ran the track in third gear all the way around except for the main straight, where I shifted up to fourth. I was up to about 90 or 95 in third gear at about 6300 rpm or so.

The car was very stable and very forgiving... and very confidence-inspiring. I can't wait to do another event.

I did the event on street tires... I didn't have the room for the track tires along with all of the stuff I needed for work for the week. (We are relocating to the Chambersburg, PA area... and I've been working down there now for the past month. I took the car to the track for two days, spent two days house-hunting, and then worked the remainder of the week.) I'm guessing that the car would have been superlative with the track tires on it.

Anyway, enjoy the pics. If I get a chance, I'll elaborate more about my on-track experience and provide more details about the event.

I was in the intermediate blue group. If you have more pics, I'd love to see them. I have some on a roll of film, but I need to have it developed, and then I have to scan them in.

How about that Ferrari F355 Challenge? What an awesome sounding car.

The 944 Turbo S club racer was also a great sounding car. I talked to the owner (Anita) and she said the engine was stock except for a straight-pipe exhaust.

I know what you mean about the big rigs and the residential area. They must have gone another way to get back there... there are at least 2 very slow speed 90 degree turns out there to get to the track.

Racetrack + Porsche = Bliss. My vote is to stick with the street tires and see how many modified/race-tire-equiped cars you can drive circles around.

Car looks great, nicely loaded.

Keept the shiny side up,

Great shot....car hunkered over, nice section of painted curbing visible, tire wall in the background, as well as the guy you just passed (even if he was gaining on you, that's what you tell your friends!).

Can't wait to track mine (probably at Buttonwillow in CA next year).

For whatever reason, the prior owner had put on 205s front, and 245s rear.

My track tires are 225 front/245 rear, but I have yet to try them.

I think that when I get new street tires, I'm going to go with 225/245.

Yes, I agree that it is a very nice picture. I'm very happy with it.

I bought a print from the guy and am planning on framing it at some point. Great for the office (or maybe at home... not sure yet).

Thumbs up

If only I had a supercharger, I might have been able to hold back this 911 Turbo...
