checked with an old business associate whose entire career is working with a "big 3" company as a fluids expert. He says:
1. One test not enough, repeat at least 2 more times with all same conditions (he's an engineer so always looking for root cause)
2. Fuel dilution wear is much worse than damage from "excessive" oil changes with quality syn oil.
3. Driving time at standard operating temps is more important than mileage. Min 20 mins is best.
4. Running at idle for 20 + mins is not the same but is better than not running for extended periods.
5. If the repeat tests show same results look for mechanical issues.
6. If the car has been chipped or otherwise modded return to factory settings and re run tests.
I begged him for years to tell me from his testing what is the best engine oil but he refuses to tell me saying that would constitute an endorsement from his employer due to his position.

Hey, thanks chrisc. That's great information and very helpful. Too bad he can't tell you which is best.
:-) Happy Holidays.

Drraulduke, you may want to read this, and try the 100 watt light bulb trick:

Well, this looks like something I should be doing. My indy uses Royal Purple. He claims that his engines run longer since he started doing this. He recommends oil changes at 5,000 miles, but it seems that there is really no way of knowing what interval is best without doing the oil analysis. I've only got 2K on the car since my last oil change. I'll get a kit, and at 5,000 miles take a pumped sample for analysis with TBN. Then, at least, I'll have an idea of the technical aspects of my change cycle, and Royal Purple.

How long does it take for them to do the analysis?

Interesting I might give the 100 watt light bulb trick a try.
Larry, blackstone is pretty quick with the report. I Fedexed it back to them and had the report emailed to me in a few days. It took them a while to send me the kit though.

7500~10,000 miles on your favorite all-synthetic is all good.... you can keep topping off with the 16 dollah-a-quart ultra-high-zddp 0w-50 racing oil. hell, you can even run that stuff all year. if you just keep changing the damn filters, theoretically, you can go very VERY far between oil changes... and your hunderd and fitty dallah motah don't give a f_ckkgg. the only conventional oil you should even considah using is that rotella stuff. otherwise, change your rod bearings @ 140~150 K. now i'll shut the f_ck up since we rather don't want another oil-wars thread.
