Post Snow Tire Recommendations?

My mom needs some snow tires for her '97 volvo 850 turbo...

Suggestions?

I'm in NY so most of the time the roads are pretty much clean, just dirty/salty...

Blizzak ? or is that too aggressive for what I need??

thanks,
Adrial

On our 850 Turbo's, Audi's, and everything else we ran in the snow in NY we ran the blizzaks, they were great, I don't know if they have anything better on the market. But I would not worry about being too agressive, just be sure to change them when the spring time comes around. you'll be happy you have such a good tire on there when the heavy stuff falls.

Can't speak to Volvo's, but my 944 can climb trees with the Blizzaks.

Move down South, we don't need snow tires.

I really like Dunlop Winter sports for the rear of my 951, that and an LSD is an amazing combo. Oliver in Chicago (EMAIL LIST REGULAR - "pinkpank") likes the Dunlops too.

I have Blizzaks on my wifes Eclipse Turbo, great in snow but not as good as the Dunlops when it's dry.

You really don´t want any snow tires that are that wide, they'd be useless because of the width.

Another thumbs up for the Michelin Artic Alpins. My wife's car (Acura) has them on and no problems whatsoever in snow, rain, or dry.

nokian hakkapiliitta NRWs on my audi are great, they're "all season plus" which is essentially a year round use snow tire. always had good luck with hakkas, had some Hankook snows that were not so hot.

I would go with something with a little higher speed rating like the Michelin Pilot Aplin. They have an H-speed rating. It would be a good idea, especially since its the turbo.

Tim has a point, tires rated for sustained speeds up to 99mph might not be enough for your mom, the tires rated for sustained 130mph (in snow) might be a better idea!
