BWD Clutch, anyone heard of it?
I recently came across a clutch disc on Rockauto, that claims it's for a Porsche 944 NA. The part # is a 699248 BWD/Niehoff. It's a really good price, but I can't find any information anywhere on it. I've talked to Rockauto and about all I get from them is, "Well it's listed to work for a 944". Not necessarily encouraging. But if it is, I think it would be a pretty good deal. I do know it's a spring centered clutch, but that's about it.

I checked it out and says it is diaphragam clutch. This is what I found about what diaphragam clutchis.It is small in size as compare to spring clutch
and it transmits more torque as diaphragm exerts more force as copare to springs......
therefore it is advantageous to use diaphragm clutch intead of spring clutch...
more compact means of storing energy. thus compact design results in smaller clutch housing.........
less affected by centrifugal force..can withstand higher rotational speeds...
diaphragm acts as both clamping spring and release levers..therefore many extra parts like struts, eye bolts, levers etc can be eliminated....
So not sure ??? Only what I came up with from the net! Good luck says they only have one left ?? Great price . At that price you could buy it and if not right just make a clock out of it for gagrage wall !

The diaphragm comment applies to the clutch pressure plate. It's the type of spring that is used to release the clutch. The spring vs rubber center applies to the clutch disc and refers to how the disc absorbs driveline shocks. A spring disc is more common and has several springs in a radial arrangement that absorb the sharp, sudden twisting forces that occur when the clutch is used.
The Porsche rubber disc performs this function but also adds a rubber isolator to the driveline, much like the rubber inserts in the rear wheel hubs of motorcycles.
It is pretty unlikely that there is an aftermarket rubber centered clutch disc on the market regardless of the picture.

I use to work at advance auto and most of the parts are BWD, usually the BWD parts were some of the better parts we carried and usually have atleast a 1 year war. with them.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I went ahead and ordered it online today and I'll see what it looks like when it gets here. If it's the wrong clutch, I can always see if it's returnable. Just wondering, since I haven't removed my existing clutch yet, and probably won't until I get the new one in, what should the dimensions of the clutch be? Mainly the width and the depth, that way if it's a completely different size, I will know right off the bat.

The clutch was $60, and I got a release bearing for $127. So I'm at a little less than $200 right now. Still waiting to see what I'm going to do on the pressure plate.

Apparently Beck Arnley is selling a solid hub (rubber centered) clutch for the 944. Found it on autopartswarehouse.com, but it is over a grand for the clutch kit...

FYI, I went to the Rock Auto website and it still said "1 unit remaining", days after the start of this thread, and after the OP said he ordered his, and bought one! Just got shipping confirmation from RockAuto. This is a bargain!!!

I tried to order one, but it said that its no longer available as of last night... heck if it wasnt worth a crap when it arrived, it was only $60 out of my pocket
