Default question on exhaust sizing/adapter.

i was wondering how tightly a 2.25" I.D. would fit around the factory n/a exhaust?
i'm looking to make my own exhaust from the manifold back. i was thinking about doing the same thing lindseyracing does with their exhaust that uses the factory manifold. example off lindsey's site http://www.lindseyracing.com/pics/944exh252CLL.jpg

i tried looking it up and i only found one person saying that 2.25" will fit around the metric piping nicely, but i want a definite answer.

thank you,
nick

On your first question, I don't know, but you could easily confirm by measuring your existing pipe OD with a caliper. If you don't have a caliper, I bought my digital one at Harbor Freight for about $10. I would also measure the exact ID of "2.5 inch ID" pipe, since it's probably like 2.45 or 2.53 or something.

On your second question, I don't know, but you should email/call summit or jegs and ask. Again, I'm sure there is some variance and/or tolerance, so even if they call it 2.5" ID, it could be a little bit more or less.

Be sure to order a nice free-flow cat. These new cats create almost no restriction and they're cheap. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure the factory exhaust is 2.25 od... So 2.25 id should work just fine.

I would suggest throwing some calipers on it though to be sure.

i planned on using
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BOR-40364/
and this in place on the cat
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-24215/

and if i don't like the sound of it i'll replace the dynomax with something different of similar design

For what its worth, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the factory muffler is a straight through type, I don't see you picking up any power with a new one

i don't even have a muffler right now. the one the po put on rusted through, and i just sold a magnaflow that was poorly welded and kept on falling off to a local jdm guy. this is just so i have a muffler with a nice sound, and not get another ticket for not having a muffler. and while i'm at it i plan on redoing all the piping, which is why i'm asking which size it is.

But you should use an actual catalytic converter, or all the babies and kittens who get asthma will be on YOU.
