Where to find basic info?
Hi, guys,
I tried searching the archives but couldn't come up with any websites on where to find basic info, specs, and modifications for 944's. Do you guys know of any good ones? I'm looking for a sporty car for a daily driver that I can use on the weekends as an amateur autocrosser, and I'm trying to compare the 944 Turbo, 968, and 928. Any sites comparing these cars? Thanks.
Chris

Welcome! I see you are from the hell hole we call Cincinnati!
Funcarsonline is a good one. Paragon Products The best for parts, and click the Tech Session link, lots of info. Right here on Rennlist, if you search for a specific topic, most likely you will find something you need.

Thanks for the links, perry951. Which of the models listed would you choose for an autocross car? I'm thinking probably the 944, due to weight?
Also, some of the local guys (well, in Columbus) like to race on top-end. How strong are these cars up top? I don't know how strong the turbos can be made. I'm debating between modding a Turbo or just getting a ragged-out N/A and swapping the engine.
Thanks.

I would race the 951 personally. 50/50 weight, excellent upgradable brakes, motor, suspension. A lightened track 951 with all the goods will push your eyeballs out the back of your head, and rip your arms off from the lateral G's.
Really, it comes down to what you want to do with it.

I think the S2 is a car better suited for autox than the 951. Bigger displacement engine and better low end torque means the S2 should be better in the slower turns of an autocross course.
Even on the track, with better low end torque, an S2 can be quicker in the corners, but it will get blown away on the straights.
But then again, I'm an S2 owner, so I'm biased!

Not the 928... not for autocross. All the others can be easily prepared to deal with it well. There's been quite a few discussions of this very topic: "what's the best autocross car?" Should still be in the archives.
My money's on the 88 924S for the best bargain autocross car. They can be run really quick. But, so can any car if prepared and driven correctly. My 8-valve normally aspirated 944 picked up 3rd fastest time of day at the season opening autocross this year. There's every kind of Porsche available at these events, so that statistic speaks volumes of the line's capabilities. If I had the money to tweak an already fine car, it'd be the 968.
Rennlist is by far the best resource available to help you along. Welcome!
Good Luck!
