I have seen 911 snobbery first hand too, what these dummies fail to realise is the fact that no car maker makes all their own parts anyway, a large % are contracted out or off the shelf from other makers.
Just imagine also if they had continued to develope the 951 for another ten years!
As the car stands, with a few upgrades it will kick *** anyway.
Let them wallow in their ignorance I say, then pass them on the inside.

I read something like this once...

The 911 is a feat of engineering over design.

On handling/finese courses I have seen 914's hand it to 911. But heck, I have also seen Mini Coopers hand it to 944's.

I think the quote was dealing with the placement of the flat 6 not the actual engine design. I have never heard that engine design was bad, just the physics of hanging it out past the rear axel.

You are correct. The quote was about the engine location, not the design.
