![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
over the past couple of weeks, my steering wheel has become very worn at the top and it has actually split open a little.
is there any way to repair/recondition this to get it somewhat back to normal...
thanks

You can get a leather kit for it to totally recover it, but its apparantly kind of tough to do a good job at. I'm kind of at a loss. I don't really want to bother since I dont care much for the steering wheel anyway and would rather replace it with a Momo, but aftermarket steering wheels cost sooo much.. Guess I'll just have an ugly steering wheel until I get my performance issues worked out.

I don't know if there are recovering kits for a 944 steering wheel.
But if there are, it is not all that hard to do and have it turn out nice on a DIY project. You need a couple curved sailing needles (extra for when you break one) and needle nosed pliers. The curved sailing needles you want curve ~ 180 degrees from eye to tip.
Look at the manufacturer's instructions to see about wetting the leather.

Alan Gunn Leather or AGLA offers a kit for recovering the steering wheel for the 944. They advertise in most of the Porsche rags.
My dad redid his steering wheel for the 914 with the kit offered by AGLA and it turned out quite nicely. It took him the better part of a day but he is retired and has the time.

You can also find a kit at your local autoparts store. Doesn't cover the spokes, but looks good none the less, and in particular has a nice feel.
Can't remember the name, but it's leather and needs to be sewn on.
Best suggestion I can give, take the wheel off when you do it, Take it inside and do it in front of the TV. Tedious job.
