if you have a sloppy shifter, this could be why.

I've taken the transmission out a few times. I had to undo one bolt that connects the shift rod to the transmission linkage. The bolt had to be put in a hole in the shift rod, and get set into a dimple in the tranny linkage rod. Is this what I'm supposed to tighten? And where's the second bolt then?
If I figure it out, I'll take pics!

Neat-O!!! I've been pondering hacking off the end of the shifter rod and "fixing" it like you did in that first picture for a few years now. I'm glad to see that the idea is sound.

I have a folder on my HD (which gets backed up when I remember a couple times a year) for 944 pages - page 1 and 4 just went to it.

Bump, for a couple of reasons;
1) To keep the thread w/ pictures active.
2) This is my project this week.
3) To help out those new 944 owners since the thread was active.
The car is being prepped for autocross and DE this year and my sloppy shifter is on top of my current DIY list. Thanks to all that that contributed.

With a bit of threaded rod and some jam nuts you can make your own.
