Question Fuel sensor resistance numbers?

I pulled the fuel level sensor last night and did some checks. None of my documentation lists the proper range for the resistor. Anyone here have that information??

BTW the low level light still works. The gauge does not. I have well over half a tank of fuel but the gauge indicates about 1/8. Occasionally, it goes all the way up to about 3/8.

Thanks,
Scott

So does anyone have this information? How about a possible source for the information?

Thanks,

Scott

This is from the factory manuals.

Thanks Rob. The numbers come close to what I measured. It was near zero when I tilted the sensor upside down (full) and about 60 ohms in the 'walk' mode.

Must be something else. The gauge for example.

Anyone have ideas in that direction??

Could be the float or debris in the tank binding the mechanism.

Rob already got the correct numbers to you, but for the archives and folks that may need the early cars figures, see this Tech-Session article:

Good Luck!

Skip,

Thanks for the tip. Those are excellent tech topics.

On my fuel sensor issue - I think now it is the float. The resistance readings are good when I take it out of the car and tilt it up and down. But once it's back in the tank (half full) it reads as though it is on 'reserve'.

Is it possible to replace just the float? Or must the whole sensor be replaced as a unit?

Thanks,
Scott
