Julie, if you'd like I can make you a shift boot. Everyone one here that's seen it seems to think I did a pretty decent job of it, the leather is really plush etc etc..

let me know before I put away the sewing machine..

PS I have no idea how much to ask... $20 plus shipping? <shrug>

Thanks for the offer, Sandor; let me see what I can dig up first, before taking you up on that. I've been offered one complete, so we shall see.

If I remember correctly it seems to always go on that bloody seam, where it hits the palm.

I wish I could go back in time when they had that totalled Porsche 944 here in the local junkyard, it had everything I needed! That thing was stripped down to nothing. They made a killing on it.

Yup - there are two issues with the sewing: if you stitch it too tight, it will actually cut the leather and the seam will part. if you use thicker leather, it helps, but it's nearly impossible to sew thicker leather with a machine, let alone a hand needle.

IMHO the hard part is getting it back on the stick.

"She's an '83 944 Black/Black."

hehe This look familiar Devia?

http://www.sidv.org/Gomorah.jpg

Also saw your looking for a rearview mirror. Is it just the mirror going bad or do you need the whole assy? If it's just the mirror itself that's bad I can send you sone of these hopefully.

http://www.sidv.org/Rearviewm.jpg

I'm going after three on ebay, the jack doesn't work on this one (it's a handsfree phone) and I want one of the accesories that comes with it and you can't buy anywhere else. Anyways, if it clips on over the regular mirror, and is a bit bigger and gives a better view.

Doesn't have an adjustment to block highbeams, but hose of us with tinted hatches don't need that

My God, it looks identical to MINE! Heh, pretty!

The rear view mirror itself is like corroded where the silvering is. I have the rearview mirror on the console right now, I plan on putting it back tomorrow, but I want to make sure I can remove it again!

How much are you bidding on those rearview mirrors? They look kewl! Yep, you are correct about the high beams!

I'm being a little extra cautious right now with her, I have a few things that might attract the cops' attention:

Sale paper can't be put in rear hatch, couldn't see it! So I had to put it into the passenger's side windshield.

No plates, because it was from an auction; waiting on the new ones. Sales paper good for 90 days, much longer than I need.

Blinkers aren't working, trying to trace that down, veeery important for others to see you!

Can't roll down the friggin' windows! AAARGH! I found two fuses switched, and put them back. Need windows to open, I'm claustrophobic! But the air and the airconditioner are great!

And then last but not least, can't see the speedometer at night...need another light. But since I need to repair the odometer with that little gear, or replace it, I have to wait...but I have to be careful! Was keeping up with traffic last night, and decided to see how the car handled, and before I knew it she was 80 mph! Don't want to be hassled. But it was fun watching my roommate with his RX7 trying to keep up!

THen it's the same problem I had. One of these will fix you right up (with minmal work). I'll let you know how the auction goes. if I get more than one I can probably send you one with the working car phone bit, if not I'll send you this one where the input no workee. I'll even record me yelling "CHECK YOUR NUTZ" on it (records things too) so you can play it occasionally.

as to the windows/blinkers/lights when you get the speedo gear plan on ripping the dash apart and spending a while in there.

However in the short term. Pull the switches and see if cleaning the contacts does anything. Did wonders for my passenger side.

PS If you asked how much I was bidding, don't worry about price. Like I said I'm getting them for an extra bit that comes with them, not the mirror itself. so you can have it for shipping.

Thanks, Sid! The arm on the rearview mirror may be okay, I've just kinda played around with it.

I'm going to glue the mounting nub back on today; otherwise the mirror is fine, except for being butt-ugly!

So the blinkers and stuff may be connected to the dash, eh? I'll have the steering off on Tuesday, replacing electrical taped steering wheel for one not so ugly. Can't believe someone would do that. I'm going to peel it off today, and see what's under it...maybe the leather was unraveling. If so, I can just stitch it back, don't know.

I'm going to check into KLA, since they are supposed to make that gear for the Odometer. I think I may go that route, don't want to have to mess with another Odometer, and have the mileage too messed up! I figure it's about 5,000 miles off right now, due to the records I found when I ran Carfax. Could be 20K, but she wasn't too badly taken care of. Just appears someone dumped brake fluid on the hood, and ate all the paint!

Just keep me informed! She's doing really well so far, except a high pitched whine that appears to be coming from the clutch.

All that stuff together leads me to think theres something central. But once again check the window switches. also noticed in another thread that 944 racing carries the KLA odometer gear. Links and such at http://www.sidv.org/Porsche.html

NOt to put it off the KLA guys that link there too.

ELECTRICAL TAPED STEERING WHEEL!

I found a nice leather one at the parts store. Wraps around and then you sew it in the inseam. Works real well. I hod but one of those foam and vinyl wrap arounds and that sucked, whis works great if you can find one.

To bad about the hood. Mines got some buckles.

Sid, KLA only mentioned they did 85.5 and newer. Mine's old, made a request for info with 944 racing.

I also found two orange wires flapping around down there, plus the wire to the rear license plate was dragging in the back, and I didn't notice; some kind soul put it around the bracket so it didn't hit the ground anymore. I was actually shocked by such an act of random kindness!

Maybe there's a typo here then.

http://makeashorterlink.com/?W12632884

Because I thought they had told me the same thing as well, that they didn't have early gears.
