I'm getting behind on the histories, so be patient. Evidently I have to run them in the middle of the night, either their server or my hotmail has been fickle during high traffic times.

But I am getting caught up, I'm doing them in the order I have received them.

I would like to make a few points here about car histories: they are never perfect! For instance on my blk/blk '83 944 there was an odometer discrepancy, but before and after that it looked correct. To me it was obvious someone was dyslexic that did a number inversion (put a 5 instead of a 3). But that's because I have dyslexia I noticed! I have to double check each vin # I enter, but that way I know it's correct.

Another point is that there have been some salvage titles popping up, thought the car on the title end is clean and the cars run and handle fine. On those it's usually because the insurance company didn't feel it was worth fixing and the owner got more than enough money to fix the car, and got it back as salvage, then fixed it with used parts. When you purchase a car you need to have a mechanic or someone that is very familiar with the cars to look it over.

A new thing I learned is to take a flashlight and look in front of where the front shocks go, at the bottom of the 'tree'. The shock is inside of that on the engine compartment. Now if the metal in front of that is crumpled, the car has suffered a hit on that side. Even when repaired they still will have a ripple in the metal there usually.

But remember that salvage is not necessarily bad, but if the car is "totalled" that is completely different. It really depends on what they had to fix, and as long as the unibody wasn't bent there shouldn't be a problem.

Also sometimes the car will have been repaired and it not show up in the report. The repair on my old car does not show up, though it was hit hard. But since it was fixed back to factory specs I don't worry about it.

The other thing that keeps coming up is that the odometer has a discrepancy. Some of these cars have 5 digits for that, so it will always be showing the "wrong" mileage, showing 35K instead of 135K.

Here are some more carfax horrors.
my coworker was given his mother in laws caravan. when the car had 23k miles, the idiot doing the inspection recorded the tenth of a mile. the car had 10k in year one 230k in year 2 and 35k in year three. in order to transfer the title he had to sign a statement saying the mileage on the car was wrong.

my brothe bought a 93 bmw in 2000 when the car had 23k miles on it. the bonehead at dmv put the price or sales tax or her birthday down as the mileage, and it showed something crazy like 135k as the mileage. dmv asked for the title my brother got in order to clarify it. they wouldnt accept that they had the title, and the mileage was written on it. we had to contact the seller, and get an affidavit from him to have the error removed.

when the po of my porsche bought out the lease, the dealer put down 60235 miles as the mileage on the car. his service department had records showing the car had 32k. now there is a potential rollback issue on carfax because i bought the car six years later with 56k. imagine rolling an odometer back 4k miles! i got all the dmv registration renewals which show the car was used 5k a year.

the potato head at a local shop didnt put the enema in my rx7s exhaust when he hit send. nys dmv didnt get an emissions result, and carfax says it failed emissions. the entry directly above it says the car passed emissions the same day. when i registerd the rx7 last year i transferred the plates from the olds which were in my name and my wifes name. the car was registered in both names but owned by one. dmv sent a bullet out that a new title was issued. i am currently selling the car, and since carfax says a title was issued in 2002 only a fool would take a title issued in 1991. i had to order a new title from dmv today, and cant sell the car until it arrives.

there are a few more, but you get the idea. all the above incidents involved attorneys. imagine the screwing the lay person gets because they dont know the ins and outs of the system.

gotta love carfax. G-I-G-O!!

Not perfect, but a tool. People make mistakes, and this seems to bring out the worst. Sorry for the horrors, Tom.

Tremelune - give me your email; have the info, nothing bad.

I have run everything I have been given, so far. But if I get too many I may not have the time to run them all, but I do try.

Sorry I can't run any further histories; 3 of you have not read your pm's, info in there.

Unfortunately, someone on this thread used it for COMMERCIAL purposes on their car, and the company has pulled my priveleges, and cited me for violating their contract.

They demanded more money from me for the Commercial posting (on EBAY), so they cut me off.

You know who you are; the company has demanded that I pay $14.95 for YOUR usage of the PRIVATE INFO, or they will not allow me to run anymore vin #s.

I did NOT give you permission to use the data to help sell your car!

Since I will not pay that, no more vin #s will be ran.

I have requested that this thread be closed.
