Thumbs up Product review - Rennbay seat upholstery kit w/pics

I picked up a set of Travis's seat kits, and spent the weekend installing. Overall, two thumbs up. I'm not associated in any way, just a customer.

The seats in question are power, from a 951 S. The Silver Rose plaid had seen better days, and I put Recaro SRDs in anyway. I wanted to use the Porsche seats in another car, with a black interior, so the basic black kit was just what the doctor ordered. Parts were delivered promptly and service was good. Material is a very nice grade of vinyl. Stiching is nice and even, overall the quality of the pieces is very good. You will need some supplies to complete the job - I went through about 75+ hog rings you'd need at least 50 if you don't waste any like I did. Travis - you might consider including the hog rings with the kit or noting that buyers will need to visit their local craft/fabric store while they wait for the covers. A can of 3M trim adhesive is helpful, too. I also bought 8 feet of 1/2" foam and a couple feet of 1".

On to the installation. Travis's web site is a good start, and frankly any more instruction would probably be wasted - watch what you take off, and do it in reverse to install. Tip for power seats - you don't need to disassemble the hinge assembly, just drive out the shaft from the inside with a phillips head screwdriver and some hammer taps. Power seats make doing the bottoms a PITA, unless you know a simple way to get the motors and all off. I left them on and worked around them, and have the scratches to prove it.

Since my seats had about 80k miles on them, I used the 1/2" foam to build up the bolsters and the center of the back, and used 1" on the seat bottom. My sewing expert wife isn't sure the foam will last, but using on the bottom bolsters of the driver's seat certainly tightened up the cover compared to the other side.

The pic of the completed seat show wrinkling, these have smoothed out some over time but I'm clearly not a pro! That said, I'm satisfied with the job since the car they went into is basically rolling therapy - I've done everything but the major bodywork, all for fun. I learned from this job that upholstery for me is like bodywork. I *can* do it, but I wouldn't do it again if I wasn't feeling cheap. Still, I'd buy this kit again and have someone else put it on, overall a good product at a great price.

Good review! You should submit it to the product reviews section of P-caronline and help Matt build up that section of his site. That way people can read this past when it scrolls off the page.

I'd be happy to if there was any obvious way to either post a review or join p-caronline.

I am glad to see everything worked out good. The wrinkling towards the top can be tightened up with a little twist to the bull ring but it does smooth on its own with a few good drives.

They look real sharp in the 'cuda.
