Flickering fuel gauge needle
I haven't run out of gas, yet - but my fuel gauge rarely tells me how much fuel is really in the tank. The needle usually flickers at the bottom end of the range. Right near the "R" - which I assume is the first letter in the German word for Empty (or walk). Luckily the car gets great fuel economy so $20 lasts me more than a week. I haven't tested the warning light yet since taking the car out from winter hibernation - but it worked last year.
Anyway, where should I look first? Is it the gauge? Is it at the sender unit in the tank? Wiring somewhere in between? I'm sure someone here has experienced this and repaired it. You guys have helped me solve all my other problems so far. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />
Thanks,
Scott

Hey Scott -
If you're talking about a 944 series car (which I assume you are), then in the rear cargo area lift up the carpet. You'll find the gas tank sender under there, and you can remove it. Look for a large (orange sized) circle and that's it.
Pull the sender, and see if the low level light goes on (leave wires connected, but take out the sender from the tank). If that works, then make sure the sender seems to move freely, and that the connections are nice and clean. A bad ground can cause this issue too - so check for those too.
The senders are easy to replace if you find (and you prolly will) that it's the issue.
HTH!
