The exclamation point is the "idiot light" - whenever it's on, something is wrong. This came with every model of the 944. You can diagnose what it is by either looking at the dash if a relevant light is lit (oil, airbag, brake pad wear sensor, etc.), or if none of these is lit by jumping some pins to flash a problem code. You can find out how on Clark's Garage or from the factory shop manual if you have one.

knock sensors are usually under the intake manifold on the engine block. i don't know where they are on the S2 but on the turbo thats where they sit. i would do full maintenance on the car like replace spark plugs and all that good stuff. clean the air flow meter and replace O2 sensor. if that doesn't do it i would look into the knock sensors

Thanks !!! I don"t have idiot light !!!!,,,, I have just check engine light one!!! the weird stuff is I have invoice from dealer 2 year ago on that light they didn't find anything wronmg but couldn't fix it !!!! tahts is weird , I want to think small dealer like this one in colorado, they usually deal with newer cars and the old technians used to works in 44 have been long gone! and just new generations of mechanics that knows best 996 997 boxster who knows!! .... so I want to tackle this light I know maybe nothing wrong with car it runs good but it s drive me nuts seem it everything I drive car@@ thanks

yeah it would be nice to work for the dealership. i am 25 and have worked for a couple small porsche shops. they usually got all the porsches without a factory warranty. they taught me alot about early 911's. i learned most of my 944 and 968 stuff from no place other then rennlist. lots of good info here
