Finally! A positive experience. My faith has been restored
Ok,
Here's what happened. On my way back home from class there's always this early 944 (guards red, owner not on rennlist) in a parking garage i go by and i always stop to take a look at the car and mabye one day meet the owner. Well in searching for the car I saw a black Boxster sitting about 25 feet from the 944. After wandering over and looking at it for about 5 minutes I started to walk away but I passed the guy who happened to be the owner. I asked what year it was and he told me 99' and that he'd bought it new. Now at this point most of us would have thought that was it. But no! When I told him I owned a 944S he just smiled and said congratulations. We talked for 20 minutes about Porsches and he showed me his car. He also said that he might be looking for a good 968 to add to his Boxster. He knew all about the whole 924/944/968 series and said he loved them. For once, a Boxster enthusiest. Just had to share! Oh and I also pointed him to rennlist so hopefully he'll show up in the next couple days

Not all Boxster owners are posers, just more than normal. I had a similar type of thing happen at a PCA dinner. Our end of the table (gearheads and racers) were discussing the shape of the 951 combustion chamber when a dr type slid down and started to listen in. After mentioning 951 several times, he asked just what a 951 was. I replied that it was the factory designation for a turbo 944. He looked at me and commented that the 944s were not very quick, even the turbo ones. Before I could open my trap, the 930 (and Boxster) owner across the table asks him what he drives, a Boxster S he replies. 930 owner says, if you want to keep your car, never go for pink slips with a healthy 951. So you get all types, even at a PCA meeting. It's probably similar to what the 914 guys went through for years.

There are a great bunch of Boxster guys and gals out there. The last 2 that stick in my mind was our mini caravan to Hershey, one 996 TT X50, 2 Boxsters and my 944 NA. All a great bunch of guys, to introduce me to Hershey and Porsche ownership here in the US.

You evidently haven't met Mr. Average (non PCA) Boxster owner yet. Most of the PCA ones I have met are cool. I've spoken with some others (non PCA) about their cars and got the stereotypical snob Porsche owner reaction, even when I tell them I have two, they look at me like a "will work for food" curb sitter. Those guys give Porsche owners a bad name.
And yeah Dietz, it really did happen at a PCA meeting in my area. The local group is comprised of basically two strata, those with $$ and gleaming examples of Excellence, and those of much more modest $ who drive the heck out of them and know how to change our own oil, not to mention engine, tranny, brakes, and so on and so on... At the AutoFair with the PCA in CLT a while back, I was talking with my usual social strata (gearheads) when one pointed out just how many 911 and Boxster owners were feather dusting the pollen off of their cars. Next comment was- d@mn sure glad I remembered to wash mine!

Well it was just really nice since the only other Boxster owner that i've ever met (just a few days after picking up my 944) was at a car wash. After I'd finished drying the car I saw his Boxster, and when I drove over to talk to him he told me "stop wasting my time" when I tried to compliment him on his car.

I used to have a General Manager at one of my old jobs who owned a Boxster S. He sorta looked down his nose at my lowly 951, so I offered to drive him to lunch one day.
He never looked down his nose at me again...
And now, he's looking to sell the Boxster for a 944T...

My mechanic just ordered a Boxster for his wife. This is the man I trust opening my AFM box and playing with my A/F ratio.
Not all Boxster owners are clueless.
Dave951M: You should have asked for a showdown for pinks before mr 930 opened his mouth

I remember helping a stranded Boxster owner outside of Des Moines IA a couple of years back, when I was driving my "lowly" '84 944. Even tho he was stranded at the side of the road with a 17k mile car and I was driving a 200k mile car, I still got a fair amount of disdain from him. After looking for his engine for about five minutes (as opposed to looking "at" it), and the puddle of coolant under his car steadily getting larger, I offered him a ride into town. He reluctantly agreed. (No, I am not making this up, I got the distinct impression he thought this would be "beneath" him).
About two minutes into the ride and insufferable attitude, I executed a high speed turn on a cloverleaf. First response was total shock and a "holy shiiiittttt"... After he realized I wasn't going to lose it, he said "do that again..." Three more cloverleafs later, I think I *may* have convinced him that a 944 isn't such a bad car.
Shame on me? Maybe... but it sure felt good.

I met an older Boxster S owner and his wife parked next to me at Ikea,he was having problems getting a small cardboard box into the front of his car.I strolled out with a 7ft rolled up rug ,opened the hatch, folded the rear seat down, and popped it in! He smiled, said nice car and his wife just laughed, made my day!!
Cheers.
