Space -

Did the bet say you couldn't use elevator shoes, a trampoline, etc?

I'd start by putting 48 cents a week in savings.

Well, I'm no expert, but I think there are shoes you can buy that focus all your weight on the front of your foot, building muscle and helping your jump. But hey, you could always walk around on the front of your feet(not in public of course).

Jump rope will definitely help you. Also, buy some heavier shoes or boots (10-hole Doc Martens for example) to get a better workout throughout the day ( I don't really know if this does anything, just a suggestion).

I think Kenneth is right. I remember some guys on the basketball team wearing them around school in high school ( four years ago) that served that purpose.

here you go man. i'm 5'10,230lbs. i can dunk on a 10 foot court. here's how i did it. go online and look for weighted vest. i'm sure there's somewhere cheap that sales them, but i got mine from eastbay. wear the vest when practicing like three times a week. if you've got time then don't stress on explosive movements right off. just wear the vest. as you jump for layups and jumpshots your calves and quads will get stronger and allow you to jump higher. you'll get faster and jump higher. you'll be dunking in no time.

not a guarantee. i'm just telling you what worked for me.

I admire your attempt, but realistically, if you are 5'6 and can't touch the backboard now, there is probably no way that you will ever dunk a basketball. there are many good college players who, because they are under 5'10 can't dunk, and they spend dozens of hours a week doing nothing but working on their game.

I dunked once in my life, when I was a frosh in HS, was at my current height, and only weighed 195 lbs. Not in a game, but on a legit regulation hoop in our gym. Amazing feeling.

Also, don't take this as racist, but in all my years around bball, I can't remember seeing any white guys under about 5'10 who have EVER dunked a ball. So for your sake, I'm hoping you're not a white guy. Don't flame me for sounding like Jimmy the Greek, I'm not saying its not possible, just a definitely accurate demographic generalization given a large number of data points.

Duck walk a mile a day. (squatted down) In about a year you'll be jumping OVER the backboard.

Get those shoes with the platforms on the front. Walk around with them and work out with them. You can use them in combonation with the weighted vest. My friend gaind like 12 inches on his vertical jump using those.

Try the vest, shoes, weight training, etc. for a while. If after a year or two you can't do it, start an argument with the friend you bet so he won't talk to you anymore, or cough up the cash.

I figure the shoes and the vest would be my best bet...
