Post Wheres factory paint cheap? How much will I get if I claim a 951?

I'm looking for guards red. I'll need enough basically for a front end. Who's got it the cheapest? How much is it at the dealer?

On a side note, has anyone recently claimed a 951? I go through allstate. Its an 86 with 120k, but very nice shape, $20k in recent receipts, recent paint job, etc. What can I expect to get for it were I to claim it? We have 7 cars through them, and my dad thinks it will go up too much for it to be worth it, and maybe he'd even get dropped. He figures about $6k. I paid $12k because of a new engine, the paint, new koni susp, etc. It was not specially insured for a higher price. You know, how they come out and look at it and insure it for more, but you have to pay more. So what do you think I can get at just normal coverage? Is he right?

Paul,

Any decent body shop paint/supplier should be able to match Guards Red through the paint code. I am guessing you are going to do a DIY front-end re-paint.
As for claiming your 951--I am not clear on what you are talking about. Are you saying you want to file a claim for the front end damage--or you are looking at getting it insured and don't know wether to get full coverage or liability only?? More info please.

Paul,

You'll have to get non-standard appraisal based insurance if you want to see higher than book value in a potential damage claim. I don't think Allstate has policies that will cover your car for any valuation above book. I may be wrong about Allstate, but from my experience with a few claims on vehicles with higher than book value, all the add-ons and enhancements don't count for much. They go by the book.

Cheers,

My 86 951 was recently totaled. A car blew through a red light and hit me at 50mph in the passenger side. Insurance was State Farm. They agreed to $8500. The car had about 85,000 miles on it and was ready for some new paint. When you go to the insurance company, provide documentation on all upgrades and they should adjust the buyout figure higher. Good luck.
