Correct wiring for starter??
I recently removed my starter/solenoid assembly ('86 951) to replace the clutch slave cylinder. Well the new slave cylinder is in (looks much better than the rusted one I took out), and I am ready to rewire the starter/solenoid assembly.
The problem is that in my haste to remove the starter, I did not take photos or good notes on the correct wiring. Can someone help me (preferably with a photo)?
There are three wires coming down from the engine compartment, all with o-ring metal ends. On the solenoid I have 2 post terminals capped with lockwashers and nuts. I believe that the larger diameter wire is the direct (+) feed from the battery, so that will attach to the larger stud. Do both of the other wires go to the same terminal, or do they get separated? I also notice a small (~4 mm) female threaded hole on the solenoid. I cannot remember if a wire connects here or if this is a mounting hole for the exhaust heat shield.
Thanks for your help...

The large wires with the larger connectors go on the large post, naturally. The small wire is the exciter wire it goes to the small post with the 8mm nut. there are 2 small studs on the starter, it usually goes on the upper most post, put it on there and try to start the car if it does not turn over, move the small wire to the other post. It will not hurt anything if it is put on the wrong post, it just won't start. Good Luck
