+1 my 1985 wiper arms do not have those bends. You could buy new wiper arms, I don't think they are expensive. They should have a gentle curve with no sharp angles or bends.

I have a similar (not as bad) problem - I think maybe the springs are just weak from age/fatigue. Its on my list to find a fix because the wipers just don't work very well, especially in winter weather....Bruce

Default Wipers missing middle part of winshield

We've had both windshields in both our fords replaced due to hail damage. That's when they both started missing large patches on the drivers side. I've tried two sets of very expensive blades from Auto-Zone but nothing helps. My wife got tired of hers and drove into Firestone where a very nice mechanic did some bending on the actual arm that holds the blade and now hers work fine. I wasn't with her so I didn't see him do it, but I'm convinced that's what needs to be done to mine as well.

That's really strong metal so it may take a couple of pairs of vice grips to do it but at least that makes sense. I thought maybe the replacement windshields weren't formed correctly and might have a miniscule depression in the middle. That still might be the case since they worked fine before the replacements, but bending should make up for that unless it's a severe malformation in the glass.

Bend the arms just a little bit that should give you more contact pressure.

Edit, Damn I fell for the necro thread.

If you have early wiper arms with one spring, swap them for late 2 spring arms. If this doesn't help, something else is bent.

Smile Wipers not pressing on the windshield hard enough SOLVED

Pull the wiper blade away from the windshield allowing access to that hinge that makes the blade come out from the windshield and spray a little bit of silicone spray on the hinge at the base of the wiper arm...If that hinge has too much oxidation then the spring will not be able to do its job in pressing the wiper on the windshield hard enough to wipe the windshield clean.

God Bless <3

I had the same problem, even after replacing the blades. I finally figured out that the nuts securing the arms to the motor shaft were loose. Once I tightened them I had full surface contact throughout the arc.
