Post Question about Fuchs

I have a quick question for the 944 owners about the stock 16x6 fuchs used on the 944. I am thinking about making a set of custom 17" 3-piece fuchs for my 911 and need some donor rims. My concern is that the fuchs used on the 911s are too shallow, i.e. the hub is too close to the 'spokes' for a big red upgrade. I know that on some of the 944 rims there was extra spacing provided to accomodate the larger calipers used on the 944 and was wondering if this was true with respect to the 16x6 fuchs used on the 944. If this is the case than I can use these rims as a basis for custom 17", if not I will have to go with aftermarket rims from the likes of Fikse, Kinesis or HRE, which I would like to avoid as I am trying to keep a stock 'look'.

If the 16x6 944 fuchs do have the extra space, if anyone could provide the part number, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

A friend of mine who posts here under the name "Tifosiman" uses a set of 951 16" Fuch's on his 944 for track wheels. He has upgraded to 928GTS brakes and doesn't have a clearance problem to my knowledge. Do a search for his posts on the subject.

The 944 didn't use a 6" wheel, 7s and 8s in both 15 and 16 inch. The places that make 17s out of old Fuchs all use 16x6 AFAIK, but they only use the center (remove the entire rim) and can make any width and offset you might want. The place you want to deal with should be able to guide you on brake clearance.

Thanks guys, that is kinda of what I recall regarding the factory wheel widths. I was really hoping that the 944 N.A.s used a 16x6 factory fuch and that I could use that rim.

Dave, unfortunately the problem is not offset but instead the distance between the back of the wheel hub surface and the spokes. On the 911 wheels the spokes were too close and you end up hitting the caliper with the spokes.

I guess what I am left with is going with a spacer and trying to figure that in with the offset so it all fits correctly.

Thank you to my water pumper bretheran.

Don't know if you saw them, but Lindsey Racing makes a set of custom 3 piece Fuchs from the 16 inch rims.
