Buying rear tires....let's hear some advice
#16
I have an entire set of Bridgestone RE-730's with only 500 miles on them [205/55-16 front and 225/50-16 rear] that I'll sell for $350 plus shipping. If you're interested e-mail me:

Sorry guys, you're right about the stock rear size (225/50 R16). Just a typo...I've got a whole spreadsheet of size combos and the resulting diameters and just misstyped. So, now the question is match the Falkens or go with something different? I'm leaning towards matching, but others obviously feel differently. The front and rears are way mismatched now, due to the old rubber and manufacturer mismatch, and the oversteer is HORRIBLE. If I were to go with different rears, the Yokohama AVS sports looked good as I'm price sensitive and my car spends the majority of it's time on the highway, although I certainly appreciate the above opinions on other tires. Tires always involve trade-offs.

Discount tire sells Falkens, quite popular in europe, getting better known here, made in Dunlops factory I believe.
Don't be put off by price, the Azenis Sport is pretty hot with autocrossers and the FK451 is an excellent performance tire.
I run them in 17" sizes and are the best I have had so far, worked pretty well at DE too.
One instructor was running Azenis sports and was real happy with them.

True, but your safety and that of the others around you on a DE run does not. Running different compounds front and rear is unsafe. You really need to go with one brand and the tires need to be the same age - in other words, all new tires.

What I meant about trade-offs was the relationship between price, performance, and tread life. I am going with the matched rears so hopefully you guys will see me posting after I survive the DE. Now if I can only survive my trip to Maryland this week and DC this weekend I'll be doing good. Thanks for all of the opinions. Case closed.

I'll second the recommendation for the Falken Azenis Sports...an excellent tire for Street Stock auto-x classes. They're cheap, they wear well, but they're pretty miserable in the wet--they go from tail-happy to tail-unhappy
The downside is that they're not available in too many 16-in. sizes...a lot more choice in 17-in. diameter.
