Post squeaky wheel, rock n roll

I've got two little annoying probs -

1) My steering wheel squeaks when I turn it. Sounds like something rubbing right at the base of the wheel. I'm tempted to spray some wd-40 in behind it and hope for the best. Bad idea?

2) the driver seat base rocks front to back about 1/4 inch. Is there a plastic bushing/slide in there that wears out, or just some bolts to tighten up? (4 way power in a 951)

I'm hoping some experience out there will save me some time experimenting.
Thanks, Dave

I had the same squeaky wheel problem and solved it by using a very little bit of "Finish Line Teflon fortified dry chain lube."

You can get it at any bike shop.

This drys quick and lasts a long time and is designed not to attract dust and dirt. Been 4 weeks since I squirted it and no noise.

WD40 would drip all over and stay wet and attract dust.

Don't know about the seat.

Check the seat bolts that mount it to the floor. You may have missing/loose bolts. On my car two of captive nuts in the floor were stripped so my seat rocked. We fixed the problem by tapping some new threads and using new bolts. I have an early 944 so my seat has only 4 bolts holding it down. Can you imagine getting in an 'incident' while wearing your 5 point harness and having your seat rip right out of the floor. It makes that whole seatbelt argument moot! :-)

Careful with that WD40 around the turnsignal switch. It has a nasty habit of deteriorating the plastic parts. Also, NEVER,,EVER,,spray WD40 or any rust penetrant down your ignition key hole to lubricate the tumblers. The ignition swith in our car is at the base of the cylinder and the penetrant will cause it to fail.
