[quote]BUT, what is illegal and this is for everyone out there listening..It is illegal to email my customers and tell them not to buy my product, It's a little something called Defamation of Character. Maybe you idiots heard of it.

yeah i've heard of it...and it certainly doesn't apply in this situation. rather than get into any legal jargon that would fly over your head(believe it or not) faster than your "magical turbo-esque n/a", suffice it to say that YES, emailing bidders of other auctions is frowned upon IN AN EFFORT TO SELL THEM SIMILAR ITEMS/PRODUCTS...
[quote]The claims are not true..the car does not have 200hp, no ****.

but, to warn potential buyers of a FRAUD OR OF ADMITTED MISREPRESENTATIONS WITH RESPECT TO THE SPECIFIC AUCTION is something of a completely different nature.
in any case, have you checked your feedback lately? would you classify that as Defamatory in nature?
and as far as this quote...
[quote]I don't know if you realize though, but I also wrote in the description that it depends how you drive the car...

wtf? is this your idea of a DISCLAIMER? i think you said it best yourself dude... [quote]...you're a ****ing idiot

have a good one!
oh yeah, one more thing...as far as hooked on phonics, here's a list of words YOU might want to start with: [quote]Warrenty, reciepts, Targata, reciever, equilizer, pritty, re-built, boared...

I have a 1984 944 NA that I just installed Magnecor wires and a Nology coil in. I guess the car must now make in excess of 200 HP, oh I forgot, I also armoralled the tires, thats another 25 HP. This weekend I'm going to clean the front windshield with Rain-X. That should be good for an additional 6 HP. Any turbos want to race for pink slips? I get a 1/8 mile head start though.

Dan, you left out fitler and filer, my two favorites!
A better disclaimer might be "depending on where you drive". I have beaten 951 on tight autox courses, I guess it's a matter of not having the boost hit in the middle of a hairpin. In this case "where" could also include 0 gravity, 'cause this guy is out there .

Uhhhh, not only am I not old enough to be going through a mid-life crisis, I also don't have a sister. To clear up any confusion, my comments to this thread to not put me into this category of people (damnit Skip, I KNOW he's talking about you when says this, you need to stop all the crazy talk!).

So is this car faster than a turbo, If I'm behind the wheel, I'll take most of you turbo 944 owners.

I see from your posts that you're from FairLawn NJ. That's about 6 hours from me. I'll make a deal with you. I hand you your ***, you start back over in pre-school where you belong, because that is exactly what is going to happen if you try and tango with ANY (and I say this with the qualifier that any means all running cars that do not have some major mechanical defect causing them not to go faster than a sea-slug) 944-Turbo, no matter who is behind the wheel of the Turbo. Physics, mathematics, laws of motion and engineering fundamentals are just all against you.

You have just opened yourself up to lawsuit. Misrepresentation of being, false advertising, and (this is the big one here buddy) FRAUD. You're looking a quite a heafty fine buddy, not to mention (hold your sphincter for this one) JAIL TIME.

Actually emailing a customer to warn them of the FRUAD that is taking place is not illegal, nor is it defamation of charachter. There are certain qualifiers one must meet to be guilt of this, but it's a bunch of legal jargon that I won't bore you with. What someone DOES need to do, is e-mail EBAY with this information and let them decide how to handle the aution, because I'm sure they do not like people on their site DEFRAUDING customers of their money.

Oh yeah guys, I'd like to clarify a few points made earlier.
1st: A 200hp 944 would probably be quicker than pre turboS 951s. So one would ask, why isnt the 944S almost as quick? Answer, the gearing is not the same as on an 8v (right? I know the tranny was stronger but cant remember if it was geared taller) and it lacks in low to mid range torque. I quote the British mag "MotorSport" from a road test (which focused on the S's low torque) in the late eighties: ".... the 16-valve car taking 7.4 seconds to cover the 30-50mph increment in fourth (6.2 seconds for the Lux) and 8.8 seconds to cover 50-70mph in fifth (against 8.4 seconds)." "The wonderfully deep-chested shove from low revs of the eight-valve car just never materializes." (it goes on bashing the poor S for being a softie in low-mid range revs, but praises its high rev punch).
So, it would suffice to say that an 8v n/a with 200 hp and a respectevly increased torque figure (about 200) combined with an 8/v tranny probably would trump a pre 951S turbo. The gearing is much shorter on an n/a and would result in higher speed.

This may or may not be relevant, when I had a gearbox from an S installed in my 8v, I expected to loose a little off the line. I was suprised (OK THRILLED) to find that not only had I not lost anything, but on 3 (sorry Manning) G-tech passes I actually did 0-60 .3 sec FASTER than normal. This was on my skinny snow tires, reduced rolling resistance may have played a small part, but a softer launch was used too. I have not tried it since the summer tires went back on.

I don't necessarily believe the claims of the specific car in question, but a 200hp normally aspirated 2.5 liter engine is not only possible, it is easily attainable(if cost is of little consequence). 100 hp per liter is not all that unusual anymore.
The output of an engine is the result of two basic factors: The strength of the explosion contained in the cylinder and the number of explosions in a given period of time. For example, an eight cylinder engine will have twice the number of explosions per minute than a four cylinder engine at the same rpm. Even with the same displacement this makes a difference in torque.
Whether the 944 N/A engine can be boosted to 200+ hp would depend on a number of factors. The compression would have to be increased, the breathing would have to be improved, and the engine management system would profit from variable timing of spark/valving. This is simplistic, but basically accurate. However, meaningful torque increases to match a turbo will be very difficult in a N/A.
The turbo engine overcomes some of these drawbacks by increasing the explosive force within the engine. Breathing is improved by simply pressurizing the charge. The performance in a turbocharged engine is not so much the result of increased horsepower as it is the increase in torque. Compare the torque curves of the N/A vs the turbo. Torque is what gets you there, horsepower keeps you there.
In a normally aspirated engine, the more cylinders, the merrier!!
Cheers!!

It is possible to get 200hp from a 944na, just not in reis junge fashion like this loony toon describes. To get there would entail some serious engine work, change of engine management, flow bench work, etc... maybe with his K&N fitler and blue clamps, he could be in 300+hp territory. Imagine the possibilities of a YUGO!
I'm with Danno, this topic is really worth the entertainment value. Best laugh I've had in some time and like the battery bunny, it keeps going and going.

Nah, supersize the pic, it's the right cluster. 'Course that doesn't mean it hasn't been rolled back a bit.
What I DID notice in that picture is the inspection sticker, I'm not positive, but I think he's 11 months overdue.
