Lightbulb Solid Transmission Mount

Hi there

Can anyone comment on the practical aspects of a solid transmission mount for a 944 vs the stock rubber mount. Does it make any real difference in car handling and / or shifting ? (As some manufacturers would tell you)

I have seen them in the past from Lindsey Racing

Thanks

If you have the dual mounts vs the single top mount, I would take the mounts off and fill them with windshield urethane. It is a huge improvement. My car had a lot less wheel hop after I did this.

Solid mounts cause more noise, and vibration. Supposedly if you run a solid transmission mount you have to run soild motor mounts. I would search that issue on here. Good luck.

I have another set of the Early 924/944 billet-polyyrethane mounts. They improve shifting and reduce noise unlike a solid mount that is very noisy. But most importantly the CV joints are spared any torque slap that the factory rubber ones let happen....

I call BS on the whole "if you have solid trans mount you need solid engine mounts" I HAVE a solid trans mount on my NA, with factory engine mounts... no issues to speak of in over 20K miles...

HOWEVER if I had to do it over (which I will eventually be doing) the solid mount is GONE.. too much noise and vibration... way too much... I like the poly approach, and may try that next.. my factory rubber mount was shot, and the solid mount was a trial, I would not chose it again the second time...

If your stock mounts are not too bad or cracked out you can fill them with urethane. It works great. I did it and my car was so much better after that.

Default BTDT

I developed those first for my 948 swap. I Haven't busted a CV or transmission yet.....
Also the factory mounts with poly filled still lets the trans oscillate side to side by 1/2 to 3/4" both ways and still kills CV's under high torque.....

I abuse the NA tranny like this almost daily under the V8 torque LOL...... just to see if I can get a CV to bust......NOPE....

There is some truth to it, but I'm not sure how valid it is on our cars. I've seen two V8 cars using solid trans mounts (tranny mounted to the motor) and rubber motor mounts snap the ears of the transmission. Both were higher HP applications. Thought behind it is the rubber motor mounts still allow the motor to twist while the the trans mount, in most cases, stays fixed. Something will eventually give.

On our cars, the long torque tube will absorb some of this and reduce the effects of torsional stress on the tiny transaxle mounting ears. I believe a high TQ motor, sticky tires, a solid trans mount and stock motor mounts may be problematic in our cars.

OK, I can buy it, on any car but a 944.. but everyone keeps putting it out there as if it were gospel on thee little 944s... it just isnt true...

Default Going forward

K .. so what I can gather a poly filled or fabricated mount is probably the way to go initially. I have heard from many a solid mount really adds to the noise and vibration factor. The car will be noisy enough already.

btw where do you find this windshield stuff. Car auto windshield shops ?

The mount I have is a single top mount.

xschop the one you mention is a replacement? $$ value?

PM me

Thanks
