Question Need Help Removing Alternator (bolts)

I'm having trouble removing the lower alternator bolt b/c of the retaining nut that is hard to get to. Is there a way of getting a wrench on that nut (red arrow pointing to it) without removing the AC compressor (I think that's what that is)?

I've removed way too much stuff as it is.

Thanks,
sm

SM,
I just did this in order to put on a new regulator/brushes. I put a 17mm socket on a 6" (I think) extension. Couldn't see the nut, just had to feel for it. Also, you'll have to remove the plastic cooling shroud from the back of the alternator to get at it.

I couldn't get a socket onto mine ('88 944S) as the side of the nut was up against the bracket. Had to file one side of a box spanner down thin enough to go in. Worked OK after a bit of fiddling. Don't know why they didn't make the nut captive.

Cheers,
