Default Help!

Hey guys new to 944 but have been around cars all my life. This is what I got, I recently bought 1989 944 2.7L n/a. It had a broken timing belt and needed some valves replaced. I had the cylinder head redone and replaced the timing and balance belts. I have to say for my first porsche I was alittle let down by its proformance. It is running great however I am looking at trying to make it alittle quicker, nothing crazy just make it alittle funner to drive. I picked up a stock turbo off a 1988 944 turbo that only had 50000 miles on it. The turbo is in good shape very little end play well with in specs and fins are good. I got it for 75 bucks what I would like to do is put it on the 944 I have but I know that there are big differences between the 2.5L turbo motor and my 2.7L. My questions are, one has any done this before with any sucess. Second besides a intercooler, piping, and manifold what else am I going to need. Any help with this would be great. Thanks Matt

alot. exh mani, crossover, downpipe, turbo back exhaust pipe, intercooler, ic piping, intake mani, tb, throttle cable, jboot, engine harness, maf/map sensors

after all of that, u'd additionally need some piggyback or standalone engine management system since the 951 dme is for a 2.5 low compression motor and your 2.7 is high compression. unless u wanna swap out the pistons too.

I am tracking on the exhaust manifold, intercooler, MAF, Fuel Injectors, down pipe, intercooler piping, oil piping, and exhaust system. But why the need to replace the intake manifold. How many PSI of boost does this turbo produce? Also is it possible to just flash the computer and reprogram it? The last question I would have would be how hard would it be to do an engine swap from a 2.7l n/a to a 2.5l Turbo? Thanks Matt

If it's running well - I'd suggest leaving it alone. 2.7L's are rare, and the more that are kept intact the better.

However, that's just my biased opinion. Plus, with all of the money you're going to put into it, couldn't you just find a 951 and restore that as well?

cause the 951 intake manifold is completely different direction than the 944NA manifold. if u don't, i dunno how u gonna run the intake charge pipe w/o doing alot of wierd turning.

944NA vs 951

Your question, "How do I turbo my N/A 944" has to be the most asked question by new members. It's so common that the topic is a running joke among long time members. Do a quick search of the site using the fifth link from the left above and you'll find numerous threads where this topic has been beaten to death.

Hope this helps.
