By my luck everybody's already heard of this but oh well..
Anyway do you think its possible that they can get an electric motor big enough in there to get a 0-60 of 5 seconds??
That would be pretty sweet though, a 944 with no engine noise would be just plain freaky!

ibtm....
you're more than welcome to introduce yourself but perhaps shortly after
and there shortly thereafter, mention about an old place on rennlist called the "abyss."
there was this time i tried to mention about the boxster/cayman/turbo becoming the new 944/na/turbo someday.

gonna have to beat someone to the punch.....
you're not the first and you'll very likely not be the last.
i believe in about 15-20 years from now, we may indeed be installing electric motors in some older cars. P-cars ? not so sure. this is not going to be as smooth as your link states.... $$$$. nor will the car likely have good road manners as the engines and torque play a role in how these cars drive and are meant to be driven. they were never designed for electric motors.

Electricity is not the way of the future. One man will emerge and change everything. We will be relying on something completely different.

first of all...they spent about $3000 too much on the donor car heh.
getting big enuff motor for a <5sec isn't that bad. u can wire up the bank in all series so that it can do 0-60.....once
besides a 944 is way too heavy to use as a platform for a performance eletric car. a 914 or miata or a crx would be much better choice

Some friends from Purdue built an electric 924S. Didn't cost them too much out of their own pocket as they got lots of government and grant money to do it.

There are quite a few DIY guys doing some amazing things with home-brew electric conversions.
His goals are optimistic, but not impossible IMO. All it takes is money...that and a big motor, lithium batteries and a pricey controller, all of which are on his list.
I say more power to him.
He is over here on RL somewhere.

i cant wait for battery tech to keep improving! electric cars can be way faster than gas...it's no joke! everyone knows about tesla, i'm sure? it's not like it's 15 or even 20 years from now. it IS now. very good electric cars exist right now and are in production! but i like my combustion porsche for now.

Electric cars can be good, but they need to figure out how to hook up a transmission to them to get some real speed an efficiency out of them. Most transmission can't handle a lot of torque at 1 RPM.
Telsa is a good engineering exercise. Electric cars will someday be a good idea, but now you have to burn more coal to fill the batteries up. So they aren't really anymore green.
