Question Battery recommendations?

When I bought my 944 about two years ago I suspect it had been sitting idle for awhile because all the doors, switches, and buttons were stiff. Not knowing better I just thought that the way Porsches are however after a few months of regular weekend driving the car loosened up nicely. At the same time I had a problem with the battery dieing if I let the car sit for more than four days. So I went down to my fap store, alternator checked out okay, battery checked okay but low on charge, they offered to charge it up for free. Put everything back together and the car has been fine for over a year.

Well she was very hard to start last Sunday so I figure I have got all I am going to get out of this battery.

So what battery are you guys using?
BTW I have no alarm and stock radio.

Thanks,
Scott

FWIW I bought a Sears International this year under the assumption that if anything goes wrong there is always a Sears store nearby. No problems, but is is slightly bigger than my old battery and I check the drains if I've washed the car or there has been rain. Slight pooling, but I probably didn''t give it enough time to drain completely anyway.

I don't have any leaks but when I change out the battery I plan on cleaning up the area with sandpaper/wire brush, then a fresh coat of rustolium, and a battery mat.

I did a search and saw the post about the Hawker Odyssey super light weight racing battery but I am not sure I want to spend that much.

Make sure the drain is flushed out, mine was clogged up with leaves and junk...not that that's as much of a problem where you live.

I flushed both drains on my car for the first time a couple of months ago and out came more dirt than water.

Back on the subject:
How about the optima? I've heard it's great although expensive, but does it fit?

You need to make a hold down, or buy one, for the Optima. It is well worth the price. Had one in my fathers 911 for the last 5 years and it never gives us any problems.

I just picked my red top up for $99 locally. Some places will sell them cheap here and there. After rotting out my battery tray over the years, I wanted the gel cell.

Thumbs up

Awhile back I noticed some water pooling under the battery so I cleaned out the drains and have not had a problem since.
Thanks for your input, I will probaby go for a high quality middle of the road sealed battery.
