"My mechanic told me"

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!

Unless your "mechanic" pulls the door panel off and actually puts 12 volts to the motor directly all you are reporting is the malfunction of the switches.

The switches for the windows tend to get dirty and bend the contacts inside. These can be cleaned and readjusted with some care. I always keep a couple of spares.

The two contacts on the window motor do become corroded and need to be cleaned.

The guide rails for the window need to be lubed with a silicon based spray once in a while too.

To answer the original question though, I paid about $25 for mine (used) on ebay. Mine had the gears stripped, so I only needed the "transmisison", but the motor is fine. Actually that makes me think...would you be interested in buying my old one? The motor works fine & is strong, but one of the gears (not the one attached to the motor, the one attached to the sissor) sripped...so it's only good for the actual motor.

New will cost you ~$100 I think.

Anyways, I would reccomend pulling off the door panel & applying 12v directly before you spend any money.

I agree with SoCal Driver's response. Check the switches and clean'em up before blaming the motor.

This interesting, My passenger window moves slower than the driver’s side by almost double. I pulled the door panel and the plastic over the motor had been opened before. When I ran 12 volts to it, the same slow travel occurred. What exactly needs to be lubed and what is a recommended spray lube? I have had a redneck friend suggest WD-40 sprayed down the edges of the glass but that "just don't seem right" If the motor is dying is there any thing to changing it out?

Use a silicon based spray on the runners where the glass travels not WD-40.

You can also clean the two terminals on the motor.

There is a two stage gear reduction that might need some lithium grease as well as the two plastic lift "bearings" that travel on the bottom of the glass frame.

Yeah, always keep some spare window switches. I replace mine every 15k to be safe. <img src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" border="0" alt="[hiha]" />

They will last at least 25,000 if you get them de-tuned.

Are these window switches the same as the switch that controls the sunroof? Mine stopped working, and I either have to clean it, or replace the switch (gears and motor are fine). It works sometimes if you press the switch on and off several times. Sometimes, it doesnt work at all.

Do I need a "sunroof" switch, or what?
