DangerIsland, The Cup rims stay here but I got some nice phone dials and I'll throw in the Brooklyn Bridge and 2 new rear tires. Tifo I always felt that my car launched faster with the 15s but the cornering goes to the 17s

While many folks say this isn't necessarty, Porsche recommends changing the caster eccentric to the 968's. I couldn't find the part number but I have it somewhere. I'll add it later. It's basically less rubber and more metal.

BTW, I have a set of 17" Cup 1's available. They are not concours, but straight and usable.

I ran factory 993 17' wheels for a year before going to 18' Gemballas, no rub with the 17's, a little with the 18's until rolling the fenders.I did upgrade to 87' spindles and big reds before running them up front.

What is it with the Fuchs?

I have a set of 16" Fuchs for my 86 951.

I've been thinking of getting some 17" turbo twists.

Anyone want to trade? Or should I keep my Fuchs?

I know they're lighter, but what's the big deal? Are they that rare?

i don't see how that would matter other than the offset. As long as the overall tire diameter is the same, the problem of travel shouldn't matter- go to a lower profile tire to solve that. With the offset, you may be able to clear the fender, but the inner fender wall may not clear when turning.

Yes they are rare. the 86 951 Fuchs were only made for one year. They are extremely light and strong. And since rotational weight is fairly important, they do have certain advantages over other wheels. Plus, they just look "classic".

If you get 17's, keep the Fuchs for future use, IMHO.

I am have had a set of 18" wheels on my car for a year with 225/40 in the front and 265/35 in the rear and I have not had any problems. I think Porsche put out the service bulletin to cover there butts more than anything. I know a fair amount of fellow 944 drivers with 17" and 18" wheels who have never had any problems. After all bigger wheels just plain look better. You just have to fine tune with spacers.

nh3 and tifosiman

Exactly where did you apply the grind?

If looking at the wheel like a clock, was it between 10&11, 1&2 or somewhere else?

Giong to the body shop tomorrow or gonna hook up a grinding wheel to the ol B&D drill.

TIA

I have 17 turbo twists on my 86. I'm running 235/40/17 up front and 255/40/17 in the back. I think that they look great and only have a small rubing problem in the rear due to the need for new shocks.
Oh, I've had the wheels off a dozen times and have never seen anything that looks like a spacer. What would be the advantages of spacer? Are they even needed on a 86?
