Drag racing at the amature level requires little to no skill, but I doubt one of you could take a top-fuel dragster down the track in under 6 seconds.

That being said, I had a similar conversation with a friend who's supercharging his truck. He'll be running around 450 RWHP with 4 wheel drive...it'll be more than fast in a straight line. He was talking trash about my "***** 4 cylinder" when I told him I'd whoop him in a road race. To which he replied "No you wouldn't, you're car wont start!" <img border="0" alt="[crying]" title="" src="graemlins/crying.gif" /> He burned me pretty good there, but agreed that road racing/ autoxing can be much more fun, that's just not what he's into. Kinda hard with 0 racetracks around here anyways.

FWD doesn't spin out in rain/snow as easily. And when you hit the gas on a FWD that's lost control it pull straight, on a RWD it spins worse. My mom would be dangerous in a RWD car.
But in a performance oriented car, the power should be on the back wheels.

As big and bad as I talk about my car (and it is bad ***!), I live in Vegas where some of the fastest tuner cars live and breathe. John Hennessey's Vipers can't even take some of these Supras. Hell, I can even take a 550 Venom. The big difference in the Supras are the engine blocks. They are cast iron. They can handle a lot more boost than our cars. Reliably. On the other hand that makes them about 600 lbs. heavier than a stock 951. A very good friend of mine has one. I went for a ride. A complete dog off the line as the turbo was the size of a prehistoric nautilus. But when that puppy kicked in, it was a complete monster all the way to 170 and had a lot more to go. He has about 500 bhp. Feels like a lot more when on boost. Nonetheless, it's also like a hummer when it comes to the handling capbilities or our cars.

Wasn't this the car that SFR/Turbo Tim was working on? Any mention of SFR in
the article?

They mentioned SFR as Tim's partner owns the car, but no mention of Tim.

Yeah, I got robbed:^( There was alot of editorial mistakes in that article but at least SFR got mentioned. BTW, the car put down 1024 at the wheels when the engine management system was tuned by Jason at AEM. We changed some stuff around since the article. Here is a current picture of the engine bay.

This car can also go fast around a corner too;^) It has a full coil-over set-up that is set-up for road racing. It also has big six piston calipers and gigantic rotors(dwarf the Big Reds)to allow it to stop on a dime.

Actually the Mitsu 3000 and Stealths in non-turbo form are front diggers......Driven several myself and have friends that own them.

As for Supras, I've driven some of them as well. The biggest difference is in the feel. Those Supras can handle very well, it beat the 968 on several occasions in the mags (cars in similar price range, the 968 was down on power to its dollar to dollar counterparts of the era). Bump the power a lot and sure, even we need to do some things to the suspension on our cars. But the Supra always feels just a little disconnected from the driver. I feel like I'm part of my 951, but just a passenger in control in a Supra.

As for the other cars, well at the end of the day no matter how fast your Civic is, it's still a Civic. Try telling the same average person that you own a fast Honda or a Porsche, see what turns more heads or opens more eyes. Which gets more respect.

And at the end of the day, I'd like my car to have a new paint job in the same color, add 968 mirrors and door handles, a splitter up front and perhaps that S2/968 wing out back. That's it. No body kits, no monster wing, none of those things that you have to do to a Civic before it looks ricey/fast or whatever you want to say. The Porsche design is beautiful out of the box and from the get go. It doesn't need half the body covered to make it look good. That said, the Supras look nice stock, but they are huge!!!! Parked my 951 beside a friends 3000GT and my car looks tiny.

I also really love the fact that it doesn't take having to replace the springs to have the wheel arches filled on our cars. Seems sooo many cars have huge gaps between the top of the tire and the top of of the wheel well. Looks much nicer with them filled.

Cheers!

I like my Supra a lot but I feel much more confident in the 951. Supras are heavy too so you can kind of get that Cadillac feeling sometimes. IMO a Supra is a good touring car for taking trips. It's got room inside and the stock suspension gives a decent ride. I think the handling would surprise you for the size of the car. It's got 2 unequal length a-arms on the front and a 4 link set up on each rear.

I've driven alot of cars, one the best handling car is the third gen Rx7, the power is there, it's handles like a dream but I hate that damn 13brew's(friend got one, on his second motor, but fourth for the history of the car). The Supra is alittle on the heavy side, but it's pretty good and reliable, it's a Toyota. The one I drove was in the bodyshop it hit the curb racing a C4 Vette, so I had to do some suspenion work after everything was done, it drove pretty good. The Prowler is extremly nice, but there's no power to back it up and the one I drove was new, I was doing a PDI (pre-delivery inspection) so, it was brand spakin' new. I hate the Dsm (Stealth & 3000gt) way to heavy! The only Nissan I like is the S13 240sx w/sr20det, pretty good with power, well balanced (like the Rx7), Cheap, REALLY GREAT DRIFTERS! Well, havn't driven a 996 Turbo, even tough my Cousin is the F&I guy at Tischer Porsche, but I sat in one! But I love the 944!

Note that Tim mentioned the brakes were updated, the stock ones are a joke for what this car is ultimately capable of. I don't like the ride of the stock Supra either. I haven't driven one on a track so, can't comment there. They are very good looking cars. Toyota almost got it right, but I think the Porsche is still a much stronger chick magnet.
