How common is cam wear like this ?

One thing to watch for if you go the regrind route ... since the base circle is smaller, the lifters will set further up in the cam assembly. If the regrind is radical enough, the lifters may become mis-aligned with the oil passage, requiring rework to the groove in the cam assembly or the hole in the lifters. When we did a regrind this summer via Elgin, we talked about this issue, but the change we made was fairly mild, and they felt the additional rework wasn't needed. Just something to consider if you're playing with cams ... especially a regrind.
